The first time I had internet access I merely starred at google, and did not have a clue what to type(and no it was 3 oclock in the afternoon and porn was out of the question.) Anyway, one of the first things I ever looked up was freeware games, After a few crappy mmorpgs(one was good though, contained vampires and vampire hunters and you could choose between each side, can't remember the name though) Then I found enemy territory, the first game I ever really got into on a multiplayer level.

Anyway, What I'm trying to ask is, what was your favourite freeware game?

You can download the first Command and Conquer and the first Red Alert for free now. Still just as fun as ever.

I'm talking of games released entirely free, not made free through their redundancy to create profit.

I have no current generation freeware favorite games. But gta and red alert are among my old school favorites.

check out Cave Story or Spelunky. both are platform adventure, but Spelunky has more of a Pitfall feel to it

Soldat (it's an unholy marriage between Worms, Scorched Earth and your favorite FPS)
Grow Island (short yet challenging flash game; "grow" games are amazing)
Go (on Yahoo Games, or IGS.net if you're good)
Magic Workstation (I haven't played it, but it comes recommended by a friend. Basically, it's a free online version of Magic: The Gathering. I don't really like collectable card games, but I appreciate the idea of a multiplayer version where all cards are free and you can explore deck dynamics without draining your wallet)

enjoy.
