Does anyone recommend some freeware games? I'll list what I have with a sentence or two.

5 Days a Stranger- It's a basic Point and Click Adventure, nothing too special. It's fun if you enjoy pixel hunting.
7 Days a Skeptic- Another Point and Click, but in spaaaaaaace (Huh, apparently this was made by Yahtzee, and I got this was when I thought of Yahtzee was only a game; 5days was probably made by Yahtzee as well, they are very similar).
Ahriman's Prohecy- A WRPG, nothing too special about this one either, but it's still fun.
Alter Aila- A Chrono Trigger-esk JRPG. It's a good time waster.
Anacreon 2- It's a turn based strategy where you take over planets, mass armies, and form alliances. It's not graphical in the least.
Battle for Wesnoth- A fantasy turn based strategy game. This is truly a great game, everyone should get it regardless if they like freeware or not.
Battle City- This reminds me of Bomberman for some reason, but you don't use bombs, you protect a treasure chest from terrorists by getting them drunk and shooting them (no really).
Battleships Forever- A real time strategy, nothing in depth or anything, but a lot of fun watching ships blow up.
Conquest of Elysium- This is abondonware, but it's too good of a game to ignore. It's a basic strategy game, build units and send them to their death; but there are 8 very different races and it's a very good (however old).
Domination- It's freeware Risk, nothing more, nothing less.
Doom Rougelike- It's exactly what you expect it to be, but in all it's ASCII goodness.
Dragon Fantasy Remake- It's a JRPG, and that's enough for me.
Dragon Fantasy 2- See above, it's the second one.
Dungeon Crawl- Massive dungeon crawler, so have fun with that learning curve
Exit Fate- Amazing JRPG, it's a lot better than the other JRPG's I've listed. Check it out, now.
Free Civ- It's the freeware version of Civilization, nothing new.
GENETOS- Top down shooter with a surprisingly good story (weird, I know)
I Wanna Be the Guy- I'm sure you all have heard of this one, a mean platformer.
I Wanna Save the Kids- Remember "Lemmings"? Same thing but mean.
Knytt Stories- A Metrovania-esk platforme... you know all that buy know. It's a nice game.
Lost in the Knightmare- Point and Click Adventure, but kinda scary.
Lost Labyrinth- Dungeon Crawler with a twist, you actually get to pick what kind of player you want to be, not whatever falls on your head and then run with it.
Net Hack- One of the most known Dungeon Crawlers (an oxymoron, I know); it's what you would expect out of it.
Cave Story- Yeah, if you haven't heard of this one.... I don't believe you.
POWDER- One of my favorite Dungeon Crawler; it has an inventory system that actually makes sense(!), instead of making one key for one item, you click on the item and it gives you a list of what to do with it! It's amazing! The skill based-learning isn't anything new, but the Gods do make things interesting.
The Powder Toy- I hesitantly call this one a "game", it's a game like Minecraft is a game.
Runman- A cute (and I mean it, just go to their website) platformer, but gets hard later on.
Singularity- A game where you grow an empire while hiding from the government. It has no graphics, and can be incredibly hard.
The Spirit Engine 2- A well polished RPG with one of the best storylines I have seen and the absolute best music I have ever heard (I still love the clicking noise when you press a button, it's that good).
Transcendence- There's not much I can say about this aside from it is god-like. I can only think of it as an Action Dungeon Crawler in space.
Warning Forever- A Japanese Shooter that I swear I will beat some day.

Soo... does anyone have something else to add?
And before anyone asks, I wrote all that out and did not steal a word.

Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle - Kind of a yuri RPG. You can play through the entire game and never encounter any combat, so I'm only saying "RPG" because you control some of the character interactions with the many men and women (but almost exclusively women[small], there's a reason I linked you to Wikipedia[/small]) you'll meet. Aside from the lack of combat it looks, sounds and handles like a classic sprite-based JRPG. A fair amount of humor and good writing too.

Yume Nikki - Close to an accurate representation of what it's like to dream. Disturbing. No clear goal or technique besides exploration.

Right now I find myself hooked on a game called Spelunky. Mix of a rogue-like & platformer so you get random levels that are pretty damn hard. Much fun indeed!

Also feel the need to mention ADOM as I'm seeing Nethack & Dungeon Crawl getting some love.

Nevymoore got the one I wanted to post (Iji). Final boss music is SO great. It also has a number of absurd attention-to-detail moments, decisions during gameplay affecting cutscenes, a lot like Metal Gear Solid tends to.

To clarify Beneath a Steel Sky, it was a paid game, but it's now freely available if you've made an account at GoG.com. There are of course, all the F2P MMOs out there, but I doubt those would count as most constantly ask you for money.

It's a short one, but I recommend Depict1 (platformer).

Hmm I haven't played any freeware games in quite a long time. I remember playing stuff like Commander Keen when I was young on my first computer. But I haven't really looked into what they have available these days.

You can download the Suffering as freeware. Play it and you will never be scared by any horror game ever again.

A couple per game.
And I did manage to keep to that, even though POWDER is probably two run-ons.
Ah, I misunderstood. Also, you missed Yahtzee's other game; 6 days a sacrifice. They are all part of a series. I've never finished 5 days, scared the hell out of me. I am a pansy.

^This. Honestly, it's on my shortlist for favorite RPGs. The writing and art are above average, and the music and combat system are nothing short of inspired. It's free now, but you can also buy it on impulse if you want to give the guys who made it money.

I figured there was another game in there, but I didn't get the game because it was made by Yahtzee; I got it because I wanted to see if I liked Point And Click games (I don't).

What's the game starring the pop-tart kitty mutant rainbow guy?

Wow, that sounds like a ninja-turtle knockoff. Too bad I don't know how to create 8th notes with html.

Seriously, when are we gonna get a good, at least somewhat modern Ninja Turtle smash-'em-up with platform elements and a hard-as-hell water level? And a woman on a skateboard who screams when you come near? And Pizza Hut ads in the home console version? That's it, I'm changing my avatar to Baxter Stockman.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my anonymous buddies and I need to prank call some Gamestops and ask when BattleToads is coming out and if they will be furnishing a Wii strap with the game.

There's a pretty huge list of freeware games here: (click the little icon in the top right corner of the chart to get it to pop out)
