French Filmmakers Go Back Into the Matrix

The animatrix were my favourite.

If you can get let go of the genius first matrix, the other two are alright. I watched the last one couple months ago, and I've never seen more badass mechs in a movie.

It might work for the french. Don't know how it works, but their action movies are hilarious (Taxi, Dobermann) while their comedies suck derriere. Luc Besson should be on the wheel, Jeunet makes a different kind of sci fi (Alien)

Anyone know the Nightwatch movies? Those guys should have a retake on the Matrix movies.

I thought the cinematography was pretty, the effects were nice, the music was cool, and the fights were probably the best part... but I'm not sure I want to call it "great" yet. The dubs are pretty ridiculous sounding, CG Neo looks like a porcelain doll compared to the live action actors, and some of the drama shots drag on too long, especially towards the end.

More importantly, the plot is non-sense. The little girl comes out of nowhere and does absolutely nothing. Half the crew dies and the brothers barely seem to notice. The brother kills Kayd for seemingly no reason, then refuses to revive him after Neo magics him back to life, then still tries to kill Neo anyway! The rest can honestly be written off as "it's indie; it's foreign," but this kind of stuff just ruins the whole movie for me.

...eh, I still wish all fanfiction was presented like this.

Exactly who it reminded me of.

Whoever wrote the script watched way too many anime's. The whole thing was a bloated, over-dramatized, convoluted, poorly scripted and acted mess, with better than expected fight scenes and CG.

It was like watching a grotesquely fat kid do a flip and face plant in a puddle of his own drool; a laughably sad sight, but still somewhat impresses you with how far it got.

As far as mind-rape goes it was bloody good!
Clever, dialogue was shit though, "We are going to die". "He chucked missiles at us. There are 6 missiles!""Oh shit. Oh shit."

But still pretty good and entertaining, nice idea and good graphics and bloody good fight choreography when they used semi-sane martial arts.

The summary to me is that, if you need CG, call these guys. If you need writing... eh... keep looking.

I tried watching this, but the commercials that kept popping up after every 8 minutes or so really pissed me off. I left at the 17 min mark.

I liked all of the Matrix movies, but only the first one has my heart and makes me want to watch it again for 9th time.

I watched this. Was quite impressive work, but I could not follow that storyline - I have absolutely no idea why anything happened at all.

The fight scenes were very well choreographed, and I particularly liked the three man fight. Its also astounding to think how far we have come technicallly that 'amateurs' can pull off effects like this, because they were amazing.

To those who have a problem with the dubbing and translation, think of the script as a comedy, and the action scenes as ... well action scenes and you'll be fine!

Any answers for these questions would be greatly appreciated

Why did Neo have to die?
Why can Kaydara fly/have powers in the real world?
I guess Kaydaras' brother pulled the plug to stop him from killing Neo, but why go in after wards and then try and kill Neo?

He could fly because outside the matrix is another matrix (probably); neo zapped a sentry and could see while outside the matrix with no eyes

The reason people wernt as powerful as neo was because they believed they couldnt be, because they believed he was different, if they kill him they can show anyone can be as powerful, that was their explanation anyways.

No idea, because he was retarded or something. (not being offensive, thats how they described him) or possibly its kind of neos fault he had to kill his brother.

It was dubbed, poorly.

I clicked play on it and started reading, then got to the part about it being an hour long. Seriously? If a fan film isn't a fifteen minute fare, I'm probably not going to watch it.

The Matrix sequels topped Keanu on my hate list anyway.

No idea. They're better if you're a philosophy major, or so I hear, due to all the damn layers and allusions in EVERYTHING.

It was good CG and fight scenes. The story made no sense, especially with humanity living on the surfance. It was quite clearly established in the first matrix movie that it was too cold to live on the surface which is why humanity lived underground. I believe Trinity even says that it is closer to the core/mantle of the earth for heat. In one of the Animatrix short films someone eludes to Zion being powered by geothermal power as well.

Animatrix - Also any surface dwelling it is doubtful structures like that exist as the matrix is several hundred years into our future, the world was devastated by nuclear war as humanity attempted everything it could to fight off the robots. The reason why the sky was tainted was from a constant nuclear bombardment to raise enough dust into the air to starve the robots of energy from the sun (the only source at the time that provided sufficient amounts).


Animatrix - It's demonstrated in flight of the osiris that the robots have significant control of the surface and the crews follow stealth procedures to get as close as they could to the the robot diggers.

You may ask how Neo and Trin were able to get the Robot city without interruption - surprise, unexpectedness or Neo just knew with his magical out of the matrix powers.

I would also add that the idea he was able to fly outside of the matrix was a bit far fetched. Neo when he fried the Robots remotely flung himself into the Matrix in the first instance and barely could hold it against the enslaught of approaching the robot city. If he was better than Kay in the Matrix why was he not better than him outside of the Matrix (IE: Fly to robot city, kick ass, win?)


So many freaking holes I hate it really. Poor story just over shadows everything and leaves more questions than the damn matrix trilogy did.

There are things in this movie that introduces some interesting concepts, don't get me wrong. But I can't get over how it ignores established cannon either.

Boy, the French are marvelously weird aren't they?

I loved the Matrix films and enjoyed most of the franchise so this film was a nice little treat with some nice ideas. (Loved the holodisplays)

As for Neo's out of Matrix powers; all that was was that when he linked with the sentinel he linked with the whole network of machines hence being able to "feel" them.

He basically hacked them all to some degree.
