A friend of mine is having technical issues with his system.Owning a 360,I have no idea about this so if anybody could help then that'd be great. If your answer is to just get a new one then please do not comment. This is his description.(sorry if this is a page stretch.Forgot how to set spoiler alert)

"If you were one of the people to get one of the very first Playstations 3 that came out, then continue reading this forum thread.

I was one of those people that purchased the Playstations, and I waited a little bit after the release to get something more special for me. So instead, I got the 320GB Limited Edition version of the Playstation, that was $200 expensive, ( I don't remember the pricing, but it was alot expensive.) So anyways, from that point on.. I didn't really use Multiplayer alot, because I'm a old styled game from the N64 days of playing singleplayer and playing it over and over again, having so much fun. So I purchased titles from Co4, Etc. I didn't join the Multiplayer community till I purchased Modern Warfare 2, and started living up in the Multiplayer of raging, and trying to better than everyone else. But I loved my Playstation, I never had a problem with it, not any issue. But up to this point it wouldn't turn on, I tried restarting the system itself and it wouldn't turn on at all. When I flip the power switch in the back of the Playstation, and I touch the power button, the system will run for about 10 seconds, and it just shuts off.. then the light will turn to a yellowish color, then go to red and just flashes. I tried to restart the system maybe 10 times, and it finally stayed up, and my homescreen appeared, and a error message came upon it. It read 'Your Playstation Harddrive has been corrupted, press ok to fix this.' Something along those lines, anyways, I pressed ok and it took maybe 5 minutes. Then it brought me to the homescreen and just shut off again, and I thought to myself, 'Okay maybe it's rebooting the system, no problem.' So, I restarted the system, and it wouldn't even budge. It's totally dead, it does the same thing as before, but it only stays on for 3 seconds MAYBE. So I don't know if somehow a hacker got into my system, and somehow corrupt my whole harddrive to a point where it doesn't turn. I just need advice so I won't have to buy another Ps3. Any advice on what to do?"

Alright, first things first. I'm pretty sure bumping your own thread, especially in the advice forum, is frowned up. Also, doing 5 times in the span of an hour is excessive. You might very well receive a warning for it or something. But oh well, just thought I'd throw it out there.

On to the good stuff:
It sounds very much like a YLOD. There are some things you can do to fix this. If the warrant is still in effect, you can send it to Sony and get a new one back. At least, I think it's a new one, since I've heard stories about the hard drive being completely wiped and all that.

If you don't want to do that, you can look around for shops that repair PS3s, I think there are speciality shops around, at least there is one here in my home city. It can be quite expensive, but at least the hard drive won't be wiped.

The third option is to fix it yourself. If you decide to do that, you need a lot of patience and do be very, very careful. I used a combination of an online guide and the video in the spoiler below to fix mine, which involves taking it apart entirely, applying flux and reheating all the elements. I did it, and my PS3 now works like a charm, once again. It's a fat one as well, from the first generation here in Europe.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck, there are no other ways around it, your PS3 is dead for now and needs fixing.

Much apology, was talking to my friend about it and neither of our searches were coming up with results so I was getting wary and losing track of time.Thank you immensely as well as I think this may be the first news I have honestly heard benefit wise.

You're very welcome, I know I was really, really frustrated when my PS3 broke and not really sure what to do. I narrowed it down to either take it to a repair shop or try to repair it myself, as I wasn't about to have all my 3-4 years worth of trophies and savegames wiped with no way of restoring them.

As stated above, I repaired it on my own and it's now working again, which is awesome. To do it, you need a few special items, like flux, a heatgun and so on, but in the end, it's a lot cheaper than taking it to repair shop, if you get it working again. I also found it quite fascinating to see a PS3 from the inside, but that might just be be, I like seeing how the technology fit together.

Oh, and no need to apologize to me, it was just friendly advice, in case of moderator wrath.
