Friendship

I've been thinking lately, (oh the horror) and I've come to my own conclusion on exactly what friends are supposed to be there for (So I have alot of time on my hands, so sue me).

My conclusion is thus:
Friendship is the combining of multiple forces, for a net gain on all sides.

To spell it out frankly: When people are willing to let down their guard, and share information, entertainment, power, and skills for the sake of receiving all these from the same source(s).
A good friendship is when both sides profit!

We're all capitalists! Communists lose! (damn commies)


Think a little deeper than the surface, what was the last thing you did for your friends that they appreciated? If you look down the loooong road, does it improve their chances to mate/improve their life/improve the community? (yes, even acts of delinquency are beneficial to the individuals; just not the community)

Friendship can also be about mutual enjoyment. I almost challenge someone to form a friendship on anything else and see how long it lasts. Granted, benefits in the long term are fine, especially when dealing with old friends, but the beginning of a friendship should have no quantifying factors other than, "This person rocks to hang out with."

That being said, that is the criteria for which I subject all of my friends. Benefits are just icing.

Most of my friends I make because we share similar interests, so we do things together. When I think of my BEST friends I think of people I go to with my problems. When I think of FRIENDS I think of people I call when I'm bored and want to see a movie.

The last thing I probably did for my friends that they appreciated was vomiting on this guy they hated, then getting into a drunken brawl with him. Of course they could have made all this up just to fuck with my head, since I don't remember any of it. But it would explain the bruises.

I really don't have any friends anymore these days. Just seem's like any I had in high school ended when I was finished with that and we all just drifted away.
