We posted about movie games, sequels and fan fiction, so why not think about which written universe you would like to see in a game (provided it is treated with the respect it deserves)

So, armed with the knowledge that the gaming industry never ever failed to make a perfect movie-to-console adaption *cough*, I would love to see the following books/comics as a game:

- Stephen King's The Dark Tower (story driven MMORPG perhaps?)
- Hellblazer (Comic. Not movie.)
- Wendy Pini's Elfquest
- Tad Williams' Otherland
- Bill Willingham's Fables

I'll second Dark Tower, but not as an MMO.

But if your looking for a game that is based on a book, check out The Witcher, it's probably one of my favorite games.

Considering how much Philip K. Dick wrote about virtual reality and video games, you'd think people would make more games based on his work.

Total Recall the game, anyone?

Yeah the witcher was somewhere near perfection ( if your an rpg fan). Altho, it only took the characters, time and place of the book, it doesnt has to do allmost anything with the original story.

Starship Troopers (back when it was a book, a comic and there was only one movie...which was actually pretty good) would make a decent FPS in my opinion (I've never heard of it being made into a game so excuse me if I missed something).

Most of the Black Library books for Warhammer 40k would translate into awesome games (probably RPG's, FPS's or RTS's).

Off topic but dude, did you see Starship troopers 2? My eyes still hurt.

On topic - Most Epic of Epic anything ' The Wheel of Time - by Robert Jordan.

Honor Harrington would make an AWESOME space RTS if you ask me.

The Vorkosigan Saga novels might make for a good RPG or Adventure game.

I'd like to see Dune get redone, as an MMORPG or RPG instead of an RTS, though.
That could work, god knows it's got enough story fluff to make an RPG world out of.

Land of the Headless by Adam Roberts. The main character has been beheaded with his brain replaced by a computer so when they make it into the inevitable generic fps it will at still least be original for not starring a scowling bald man.

Bourne Identity series, the game is based off the book even though there is a movie.

Yeah, I saw SST two and I am still trying to think of words to describe how bad that movie was (again, the first movie was alright, it's just an unholy shame they felt the urge to make a sequel).

Yeah, Honor Harrington would be great (yay, I finally found another fan!). There was an ad [http://rulethehonorverse.com/] for one at the back of At All Costs, but it looks fake to me, just a marketing device. Based on the description on the site though, it would be epic if it was real.

The Dark tower would make an excellent fallout 3 style RPG IMO, much better than the last 3 books at least (which by the way were the biggest literary disappointments of my life taking into account what the first 4 had to offer). I could go on for hours about how the dark tower spun out of control in a downward spiral somewhere between the Wolves of the calla and part 7, but I can not deny how awesome a game based on the premise of Roland's original reality would be, or even the dimensional travel.

Man, I can imagine it now.

"HYPER FOOTPRINT! Info coming in now... CIC makes it to be 27 point sources, 5 maybe 6 SDs, 10 or so cruisers and a handful of tin cans. They're on a least-time intercept with the primary with turnaround in 180 minutes. Accel indicates they're probably pretty heavy with pods." "Very well, take us to GQ."

I would love to see Bethesda get the game license for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. The Infocom game was legendary, but take HHG2G lore and expand it into an open world/open universe and you'd have a viable Best Game Ever candidate.

How about an MMO based in the Forgotten Realms? There is enough lore and books written about that particular D&D world to make for a GREAT game.

Any James Rollins novel- Map of Bones, The Black Order, Amazonia, etc. They could be a series of games in third-person shooters. Similar to Uncharted, but darker and with more SUPER SPIIIIEEES. And science. And history. And prosthetic hands. And giant tigers. And Russians.

..Yup.
