So I'm planning on buying a console to go with my big-ass TV. Question is: which? Nintendo Wii is out of the question, so it's basically a fight between XBox 360 slim and the PS3 slim.

I'm on the fence with both consoles right now, so could anyone lay out some pros/cons? And please don't fanboy the place up, since I really just want advice.

(Note: "buy both" replies are irrelevant. If I had money for both I wouldn't make this topic)

This is the list I made when choosing:

Pros:
Better, more reliable online play
Better controller
More exclusive FPSs
Longer warranty
More friends have it (not sure how relevant this one is to you, but if you like online gaming, this might go either way)
Cheaper
Kinect
Original Xbox games work

Cons:
Higher failure rate
Have to pay for online play
Microsoft likes it's banhammer, and, generally speaking (from my experience), aren't as consumer friendly
*Slightly* worse hardware

Pros:
More RPG exclusives
Blu-ray player (you might already have one, so this could be irrelevant)
Free online play
Less strict with online content (eg Portal 2)
Blu-ray discs allow more content and less discs
More reliable
*Slightly* better hardware
Better customer service (again, this is in my experience)
Exclusives are able to take advantage of greater disc-space

Cons:
More expensive
Worse controller
Online play not as good and reliable (downtimes are frequent)
PS2 games don't work

I went with the PS3, mainly because I'm not really an online gamer and I prefer RPGs to FPSs.
Hope this helps :)

That seems a pretty good list but I would take the better and worse controller out as it is preference e.g I prefer 360 controller for fps but I prefer ps3 controller for fighting games.

Kinect is a possible future plus but as it stands it does not do much (but does more than the PS wand thing)

Also another con for PS3 is a lot more updates and having to install some games which can take a while (although I have never had to install any ps3 game personally) apparently devil may cry 4 and resistance 3 are especially bad for this.

Oh and backwards compatability with 360 is also not great so I wouldnt factor this into your decision.

I have both and play them pretty equally but if I had to get rid of one I would probably ditch the 360 as I dont play online much and the damn thing has already red lighted once (just after the warranty ran out as well, luckily I took it apart and was able to fix it now it sounds better than it did new just hope it stays that way.)

Oh and I would second the customer service from personal experience and a few friends sonys was overall much better.

Thanks. Right now I'm leaning for the Xbox, because i'm more FPS oriented than RPG and I personally like the controller more. I had my time with the two consoles in my work and, while I spent more time on the PS3, it did not grow on me.

Paying isn't a problem, since i plan on going gold/plus nomatter what i buy, and neither is price since both are at the same price right about now.

What i do worry about is the hardware problems. I've heard the new XBox 360 slim has less hardware problems, but i'm not sure if i should trust the source (mostly fanboy).

EDIT: Also changed the title of the thread since i think most people avoided it due to it sounding like a fanboy war.
