From the start, or at the end?

I've been thinking about this, and I realize that most of the things I'm interested in, are old enough to where all of it has been released.

Like, The Beatles. I got interested in them about... 1 year ago (I never really listened to any music before anyway.) and now I have over 150 songs, and didn't have to wait for them to release their songs like those who did way back then. Then again, I also never got to be at one of their concerts, or fully understand why people hate Yoko Ono (I still don't).

Or with television. I found all 3 seasons of Arrested Development on Hulu, and got to watch them all over the period of one fun-filled week, never having to stop or wait for the next episode.

And with video games, I point to Half-Life. A really short time ago, I decided to buy Half-Life 1, then The Orange Box, and recently I read a thread where people are talking about how long it took for Half-Life 2 to be made. I didn't have to wait for it, I didn't even know it existed until two years ago, to be honest.

So, the main discussion of this thread is basically whether or not it is better to be with a franchise at the start, or to wait until its all done.

It really depends on how long it takes for the album/game to be released. Didn't the Beatles release an album every couple of months? You can't really complain about that.

With games especially I think it's better to be with a franchise at the start. If you pick up newer games in a franchise like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, etc. it's probably harder to go back and play the earlier games and enjoy them quite the same way. Epic games like Final Fantasy III, the original Zelda, or Metal Gear might not be all that special if you're first experience was FFXII, Twilight Princess, and Snake Eater. There are exceptions for sure, but that's what they are - exceptions.

hmmm...
well I got into Halo around the time of Halo 2 (near the release of Halo 3)
but I'm the same with the Orange Box
got it all at once
I guess sometimes I have to wait, but otherwise I find older games and am glad I don't have to wait
just depends on one's individual schedule and gaming life I suppose

Yoko Ono has a special place in hell just for her...

DAMN YOU WITCH! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!
So... that is why people hate Yoko Ono? Ah. That makes sense.
Wouldn't the band have broken up eventually though?

Maybe, but Yoko sped the whole process up.

First off, you are my new favourite person for being an Arrested Development fan(first other person I have seen) second, I too have picked up Orange Box for Half-Life 2 and it is awesome. I have always like all types of music however.

I end my post with a wonderful quote:

Get off my lawn kid.

Actually there are advantages to each. I wasn't old enough to enjoy any Beatles concert myself. Hell, John Lennon was shot when I was 5 days old.

Some of the music I enjoy is from bands that formed and broke up, others from bands that started when I was 2, and who knows what I'll enjoy in the future.

It's all a mixed bag. Star Trek was interesting because it was a (ratings)failure that turned into a huge success.

John Lennon was dating Yoko Ono. The Beatles had a standing agreement that they wouldn't let their women interfere with their music. Lennon brought Ono in to start writing and recording with them. Everyone else got pissed and they broke up. Later, a really weird and obsessive Beatles fan shot Lennon for causing the whole situation. Lots of people hate Yoko for her interference. And that is the incredibly oversimplified explanation of how the Beatles broke up.

As for the point of the thread, it depends. I like to watch seasons of TV shows on DVD as they come out rather than on TV, so I guess I like the combination. I prefer to be following something as it happens rather than after everybody else is already done with it.

I prefer them when they're forgotten and I don't have to listen to everyone pounding their songs.

She was the final straw. Ringo/George/Paul got fed up with her, trying to influence Jon to do other music in The Beatles.

In the end it was "Us or Her"...Jon choosed her...

I wish I could have been there with the Beatles from the start or any of the amazing bands back then.

Woohoo, knitting!

I usually become a fan of trends before they go mainstream. So I get to sit back and smugly say, well i've loved them for ages...

Buster: (upon seeing Tobias' business card) Waah!
Tobias: Oh, don't worry, it's pronounced 'ahnahlrahpist'

...anyway, Arrested Development may not be over; as is said in the final episode:
"Nah, I don't see this as a series. Maybe a movie..."
