I watched Total Biscuit's 'WTF is' of this game and went to buy it, to discover my bank account is like 20 cents short of buying it. :(

$8.99 USD on Steam, GOG and the developer's website.

Goddamit! Why must I be cursed with a laptop screen which cannot go 1280x760 resolution at the very least. The game cannot support anything with a lower resolution than that. :(

If you don't live in the US you may want to purchase the game on GoG or directly from the game's homepage (in case you want a Steam key) since there's no price conversion there, as opposed to the Steam store.

Yup, bought, loved it, can't stop playing it.

I've unlocked the easiest to unlock ship, (achievement of getting to sector 6 I believe) and found it way easier in terms of dealing with those goddamn boarding parties.

I was having a whale of a time too. I had all systems manned and excess of two mantis and two humans in order to combat boarding parties.

Then everything changed when the fire nation- just kidding. Then I fucked up cause I wasn't thinking. I bought the ability to send my crew over to board, but I accidentally sent my crew over to an automated scout ship.

Pro Tip: Automated scout ships are automated, therefore don't have crew running it. This means that it DOESN'T HAVE OXYGEN TO SUPPORT A BOARDING PARTY.

Learned that the hard way T^T.

It's really interesting how if a bunch of your crew get destroyed leaving you with only two or possibly even one crew member, you can still try and continue.

I've gotten as far as the rebel ship, but I got my face destroyed since I didn't get nearly enough upgrades along the way.

Super fun game, and I would recommend it to pretty much everyone

I've been playing the hell out of this game. Only unlocked two ships so far, the Engi and Zoltan cruisers. The Zoltan ship was really fun to unlock. Even if it is nonviolent.

Oh, and as for dealing with boarding parties; assemble your crew in the med bay and fight them off there. Usually works for me. Just be careful if they decide to bust up your oxygen system.

I have been playing it since yesterday, and ironically, the ships with the awesome names (to wit the "Bradbury" and the "Stalwart") were the ones that didn't make it past sector 2.

By now I have the Engi A & B
(one crew, no sensors, lots of drones)
and the Stealth ship unlocked. The thing about the latter:
No shields. My next one of those will either be called "Paper Armor" or "Sir Burnalot".

Oh and for people wondering what the heck it is:
Gotta say....this looks like the type of game I could play four hours. The type of game that makes you say "Just two more jumps---holy shit it's 4 in the morning."

What I'm missing in this game is character creation, or ship creation in this case. It's a core feature of the rogue genre.

I'm not entirely sure the game balance is right either. The engi ships seem to be a better deal than the human ship, with the best of options to solve multiple choice encounters en addition reapair speed. I made a big buck out of distress signals in my engi game. Drones are pretty cool too.

I'm loving FTL.

My only real problem with it is I want to unlock the other ships but I can never get to the proper sectors to unlock them and if by some miracle I do I can never find the right beacon before the rebels start blowing up half my ship. But that's my own damn fault for having horrible luck.

Oh, and I guess the fact that you can't move the rooms around in the ships is a little disappointing, but it's not that big of a deal for me. The different ship types (once I unlock them) will be all the ship customization I need.

Overall though it's an amazing game. Combat is fun and engaging (especially with auto fire off with four different types of weapons all going at once), the crew micromanagement is hilariously evil once large boarding parties get involved, the fire/hull damage/leak deal is awesome and the economic system is interesting as well once you factor in balancing your system upgrades and buying new supplies and weapons. AND THE MUSIC. SWEET JESUS THE MUSIC.

9/10 in my book. I've only beaten it once, but I've gone through over fifty playthroughs (most of them under 15 minutes) and even when I was venting atmosphere out of half of the ship, the other half was on fire, my weapons and shields were down and only one crew member was left alive I still loved it.

I'm starting to get the hang of it. Beam energy weapons are insanely overpowered and one of the best ways of dealing with the final boss, mainly because the boss is so huge you can easily hit 4+ rooms in one sweep. Also, the Federation Cruiser with a fully upgraded Artillery Beam cuts the final boss to shreds. Beyond that, a lot of stuff works. Ion weapons are great fun for knocking out systems, especially the Ion Bomb (1 power, 4 Ion damage). Burst Lasers are great as all-rounders, being able to overload shields easily and deal solid damage. Missiles just don't give a fuck about shields. Drones are hillarious to watch in a "I'm not touching you!" kind of way...

The only thing that bugs me is how hard it is to unlock ships. Aside from the Engi ship (get to sector 5) and the Federation cruiser (beat the final boss) all the other ships tend to require somewhat convoluted methods. Namely, you need to get to one of the Homeworld systems, THEN you need to find the right jump point in that system (with no hints or anything, so it's blind luck) and THEN you need to have the correct crew, equipment and ship system setup (which, again, is blind luck). For instance, the Mantis cruiser requires you to have a Mantis crewmember, a Teleporter and an upgraded Medbay. And even if you have all that AND you get to the Mantis Homeworld system you can still easily not find the correct jump point before the rebels catch up to you.

Also, Zoltan crewmembers are too useful compared to everyone else. Ok, you might want a Mantis or two in there to repel boarders, but Engi, Rock, Slug and Human are kinda redundant...

Just came across this game on GoG not 15 minutes ago, looks cool, seems like it would be perfect for an Ipad port, especially since Star Command is never gonna fricken come out.

I was one of the poeple who helped kickstart it and Im pretty happy with putting $20 in. So far the hardest playthrough, for me, has been the ship that starts with a cloaking device and no shields. I still dont get why shields cost so much though, it seems like they should be about the same cost since every other ship starts with them. Thats probably my only gripe at the moment

Anyway, very fun game and very happy with how it turned out
