Trying to get through caves in Pokemon, and being greeted with this:

"WILD ZUBAT APPEARED."

Fuck this...I quit.

The first time I played hot for teacher on expert (hadn't played it on any other difficulty either), I hadn't heard the song before and thought it might be easy. So I sit and litsen to the drums with my fingers relaxed, when I suddenly see a shitload of gems.

MW2 Favela level, both in campaign and in SpecOps. Matter of fact, many instances in both MW games, including going down the stairs in the first building where Al-Asad is supposed to be hiding, and getting a face full of bullets the moment your big toe appears in the doorway, that level where you need to defend your position against hordes and hordes of Ultranationalists, where even on Recruit they tended to pump me full of lead while I'm prone and not even near the edge, the approach to the White House under constant enemy fire (even when moving from cover to cover to flank them), that FUCKING shower block section, the part in No Russian where you suddenly have to face an unbroken line of dudes with riot shields, the list goes on.

Also pretty much the entirety of Heritage of Kings, and, after a while, the campaign of Earth 2160. (Awesome game, but GOD, the writing and voice acting suck worse than an Uwe Boll movie about vacuum cleaners.)

Deus Ex, first level, after FINALLY managing to kill almost all the terrorists or whatever, there's I think only one left to go, and he hits me with a poison dart. I'm dead. I'm sure it's an amazingly awesome game, but at that point, I just stopped playing.

GTA San Andreas, I have yet to finish the mission where you have to kill the dudes on the train without cheating to get a rapid-fire rocket launcher.

Far Cry, that boss-esque section at the entrance to the base, in that fort or whatever. I kept dying OVER and OVER and OVER again. After finally managing to kill the two godawful annoying boats, with their mortars or whatever, and killing one of the helicopters, the second one comes, and repeatedly tears me to fleshy bits with miniguns, or if it doesn't do that, it drops enough troops to make me waste all my ammo, and then I'm stuck hiding in a tunnel because the moment I step outside, it opens up with the miniguns. To date I still haven't progressed beyond that section, as I decided to "fuck it" and deinstalled the game. I was deriving absolutely no enjoyment from that game whatsoever anymore.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, amazing game, but on one level I have to find something..... an escape pod or something I think in an asteroid field, with no marker, no idea where I need to go, and ships coming at me from many directions. And after a few minutes of duking it out, an instant "game over" with no explanation. Over and over and over again.

Ess Tee Ay El Kay Ee Arr: Shadow of Chernobyl, the very first mission where you have to clear out that farm. No matter what I do, no matter which way I approach it, my allies just walk single-file through the barn door to get shot, and then the enemy bastards blow my ass to hell too.

WH40K:DoW:Soulstorm. Just..... Soulstorm. Dark Crusade and all the others load in about ten seconds at most. Within half a minute of launching the game I'm commanding troops in the field. Soulstorm takes at least five FUCKING minutes just to get to the campaign screen..... after which five more minutes to the campaign map..... after which five more minutes to the mission..... you get the idea.

There have been so many over the years, but it really comes down to game mechanics:

Quick Time Events - One or two is not a deal breaker, but entire boss fights? Fuck that.

Realistic Sims - Trains, planes and automo....trains? WTF?

Facebook games - They aren't even games man. A web-based skinner box anyone? (Look it up.)

MMO Death Penalty - ...

Any game mechanic that the only purpose is to prolong the amount of time spending the game. Otherwise known as mindless filler. Yes, I'm looking at you Mass Effect. I expect it in an MMO, but in a single player game?

Well when I screw up the drop to secure the hostage because of my jackass friend Walter, then I say "Fuck it" and just go bowling.

Cookie for the reference.

My best example comes from castlevania: order of ecclesia. That game is one of the few I can name that is signifigantly harder than it's predecessors. Last night I spent 30-40 minutes trying to beat one of the later bosses in the game, figuring out his attack patterns, working out dodges that work for certain attacks that are both telescoped the same way, ect.

After about an hour of working on this dude, I finally bring him down, only to be given a game over screen. Thouroghly WTF? ing I consult game faqs. Apparently I need to resque all of the villagers who have no seeming current connection to the plot in any way before proceeding. What made me quit was that the only villager I was missing was apparently hidden behind a breakable wall 3 levels back that was completely identical to every other walll in the level, with no general markings or clues to say that it was even in that area.

Despite my love of castlevania in general, sincerely "fuck this".

Trying to kill the Reavers outside of Turtledove Detention Camp. I tried about 5 times to outrun them and shoot them at the same time (with grenades, mines, double barrel shotgun, missile launcher...) while I was being chased by other feral ghouls (who are easy enough to kill). I was getting really annoyed and and was about to just say fuck it all when I was told that if I just stayed hidden the Mr. Gutsy's would take care of it. It worked, and I felt like an idiot.

a.
Far Cry 2 would have been such a better game by simply tweaking the save and travel systems a bit.

I got through it to the end and felt kind of empty, like I'd just wasted 30 hours of my life.

I went through Point Lookout with the Chinese Stealth Suit and a Shishkebab.

Cheating, yes, but it pissed me off because 'Shitloads of enemy HP' does not equal challenge, it equals boring.

well you see there are countless moments (and yet still many more to come) on where we just have to give up on the games we play but i have to say the biggest "fuck this" moment that could possibly piss me off would be if i were in a game with five year old "gamers" complaining about how he got killed i halo, call of duty, battlefield, just that kind of stuff. FUCK YOU 30% OF THE GAMER COMMUNITY!!! (five year old "gamers" im reffering to incase you didn't catch that)

Megaman X3, the final form of Sigma. I know he normally isn't a difficult boss but on my first playthrough I tried using the X-Buster and was stuck on him for weeks. :/

FF13 - played for 2 hours and said, this is jut like the busy work they gave you in school because the teacher , who was once good ad what she did, is now only in it for the money and doesnt make a good game... err lesson plan any more.

World of warcraft new random dungeon system - My battle group has 2 Latin american servers in it. so... When I que up for a random after 10 pm, i usually get 3 or 4 non english speaking players that are new and do not know how to play the class/instance. I'd rather take the 30 min debuff then waste 2 hours on a random 5 man where I have to constantly explain everything only to have them fail over and over and over again.

Any online game on xbox - I hate the gamer community on xbox live. The best thing msoft could ever do would be to implement the ability to choose 21 and up gamers only. Use credit cards to verify age or something, please.

Persona 4 final boss comes to mind.

Final form was on little health, the fight had taken a good half-full hour if you include the previous form. Party was on full health, and had defense buffs on them, boss decided to come out with 2 powerful/super moves in his 2 turns, which obliterated my party.

Safe to say, i haven't touched the game again. Which is a shame, as the rest of the game was amazing.

Was on Normal.

I could probably do it again and beat it, since it was only that which pissed me off, but I just never could be bothered to spend more time getting to that point again.

Shinobi for PS2: finally got the very last emblem in the game on the hardest difficulty in the last level, a feat that took several tries to reach at all, much less get back to the level after acquiring it.

Died trying to get through the demon gate before the last boss.

>.<

Haven't played since then. Just got tired of re-trying the same level for hours to unlock a bonus character.

Oh, also: constantly in Left 4 Dead 2 when the AI decides it would rather stand on my face than SHOOT THE HUNTER ON ME SHOOT IT SHOOT YOUR GUNS THOSE THINGS IN YOUR HANDS THEY PRODUCE BULLETS SHOOT you know what screw it *exit*

Civilization III - Wasting 4 longbow men on a stone-age warrior.

He then attacked one of my cities and captured it from a musket man.

Yor would call bullshit on it.
