Note : this is a fairly poorly written review I was just so disappointed by this game overall I had to spout off something about it though. Without delving too deep into any specifics, feel free to disagree with me, most people do. As for the style, yes; I've been watching too many of yahtzee's vids it probably shows...
Well, I haven?t done this in awhile but this game was so terrible I just had to complain about it to someone, and rather thought I might enjoy the responses from the idiots that will no doubt eventually come to its defense.
So let?s start with the basics, it?s the future apparently some un-described nuclear calamity has befallen the earth turning it in large part into various kinds of wasteland. From the (still burning) forest to the frozen arctic wasteland they even threw in some desert for you people that aren?t already sick of that landscape. On the bright side humanity is apparently still doing quite well because all they have to spend their time on is racing. This is where you come into the story as the nameless racer? let?s call him Gene must overcome increasing obstacles in an attempt to obtain? well that?s never really explained to be honest?
So let?s get down to the basics, I was obviously playing the pc version of this game as I am still convinced consoles are for people with either too much money or not enough computer. Either way first thing to notice is the horrible engine. Anything more than about 40 yards in front of you instantly turns into a blurry pile of crap regardless of your machine?s ability to render the entire world all at once while asking ?is that all?? I can only blame this on it being a console port because all console ports seem to follow this same general tom foolery. However poorly built engine and lack of storyline aside, those aren?t my real problems with this game.
?So crooked_ferret?, you ask with pointing and laughing at me as you feel superior because you actually enjoyed this game, ?what exactly is wrong with this game??
Well allow me to tell you, it suffers the same painful problem many racing games suffer from, it?s a little something I call control. Why is it that my futuristic racing machine cannot take a gentle sloping curve in the road at 90 miles an hour without attempt to slide off the road over a cliff and into the pits of oblivion. ?now before you say ?but you idiot that?s the challenge?
Let me explain something about a challenge to you, a challenge is something to be overcome indeed, but I would expect in this day and age they could create a racing game wherein my super futuristic vehicle could actually perform better than my 2002 extended cab Chevy truck going down the road. Now forgive me if I think this is a bit too much to ask, but why is it that difficulty in just about every racing game I?ve played in the last decade is based solely on the vehicles being nearly impossible to control properly. At first I blamed this on my lack of a proper racing yolk? so I went out and got one? didn?t help at all. The vehicles still stick to the road about as well as two oil wrestlers suffering from a condition which causes them to go into spasms whenever they come into contact with oil? This leads me to a question for mister game developer ?why must you assume every vehicle on the planet handles like your ?smart? car, which is little more than a glorified go cart? ?
Maybe I?m being too harsh, maybe I just don?t like racing games at all? well that can?t be true because I to this day still own my copy of Need For Speed Most Wanted, it?s even installed on my computer right this very moment, and while (vehicle?s being completely indestructible not withstanding) control in that game seems to assume that tires can actually grip concrete at speeds over 60. The game has very little basis in reality. It was fun, so much so that I still fire it up now and then just so I can evade the cops and destroy the city. At least the NFS series attempts something at a storyline with most their games. Instead of throwing me into a boundless world without any explanation. Another thing about fuel is it gives you a ?free roam mode? where they allow you to basically drive randomly around a new world looking for pretty places and new decals that you magically gain the ability to use just because you saw them on some random vehicle as you explored the world. I have to admit I just don?t get this one. I think I?m going to go play a better game now. I?m sure any of a number of free to play flash games on the net will provide me with far more entertainment than this stinking pile of waste that fortunately just finished uninstalling from my system.
