Fun horror movie

I've just watch the MOVIE DEFENSE FORCE of this week, about the remake of the Texas Chain Massacre, and I thought that, since Halloween is near, we could talk about fun horror movie to watch with friends.

Personally, I was at Montreal Horror Fest 2014 last month and I've seen a really fun flick. It was called "Scarehouse". A mix between a slasher movie and a torture-porn movie where two girls create a Scarehouse (or Haunted House Attraction) to avenge themself from their former friends. There is a lot of funny quips, gore and I was really impressed with the acting.

So, does someone else have got a suggestion/interesting recommendation?

Cabin in the Woods is pretty good, I don't know why I've been thinking about it all day even though I watched it like a year ago, but seriously that movie is great, the Evil Dead remake which was actually filmed in the same cabin as Cabin in the Woods is freaking amazing too, I didn't expect much of it but seriously is fucking good, I loved it, I think both of these are a lot of fun to watch with friends.

Other horror movies I'd recommend, well George A. Romero's Day of the Dead is my favourite Zombie movie ever, so I think that's good, probably good enough to watch with friends...

There's a film called Trick R Treat which is 3[footnote]Maybe there were 4? I saw it last year maybe I don't remember all of it, I assure it's worth it though as I can very clearly remember 3.[/footnote] horror short stories that are loosely tied that is also pretty good and a lot of fun, I recommend that too, also Halloween themed so it's pretty much ideal to watch on Halloween, yeah I'd recommend that it's pretty good.

Thanks for the recommandations! :) Cabin in the Wood is, indeed, pretty good. But, it is good to know that the Evil Dead remake is good. I was affraid that it would compare poorly to the original and, so, I didn't watch it. I'll add it to the watch list! ;)

I've seen Night of the living Dead and Dawn of the Dead presented by Romero last month and it was a treat! Really awesome envening and movies and a lot of cool story by the man.

Oh, Trick R Treat, yeah, I've recently heard of that. It seems cool!

I'd recommend watching 'The ABC's of Death'. 26 short stories, all by different directors from around the world. Some are disturbing, some are funny........others are simply WTF???

It can be a little hit and miss, but you may well find a director you'd never heard of, and a whole new catalogue of work to look through.

The Lost Boys

80's vampires and Kiefer Sutherland with a mullet. It's actually a really damn good and fun vampire movie.

Motel Hell. A motel owner and restaurateur abducts tenets and buries them up to their necks so they atrophy and become tender for serving in his road side diner. There is also a chain saw on chainsaw fight between the hero and a man wearing a pig head.

It's kind of become a bit of a Halloween tradition for me to watch Peter Jackson's The Frighteners (1996) while passing out candy to trick-or-treaters.

It's a Horror/Comedy about a man who gains the ability to see ghosts after being involved in a near-death experience, and uses that ability to con people with a fake "ghost busting" business until crossing paths with a deranged FBI agent and a deceased serial killer who isn't quite finished killing.

It stars Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado, Dee Wallace, Jake Busey, and Jeffrey Combs.

I'm sure this is the most unoriginal answer ever, but check the avatar baby. I found Scream to be a a rather silly but still a really engaging story, hence why it's a classic today. By god though don't watch a sequel, bar maybe the most recent one (which is okay). Number 3 especially could get murdered by a masked man who turns out to be the director using a voice changer for all I care....... Oops
I'd second Cabin in the Woods as well. It starts as a self aware mockery of a typical horror story, pointing out that no one reacts the way horror characters do, then evolves into a rather what the fuck sci-fi, and ends by sticking it's thumb up your hoo haa, offering you no explanation, leaving you to wonder "why would a person I don't know do that to me? I didn't deserve that". That is to say, the experience doesn't hurt, or place one in deep discomfort, rather violates the viewer in a most playful way.

I love that movie, I second this, if you haven't watched this, you should.

I just gotta make myself clear on this, you should watch the Evil Dead remake, specially if you liked the old ones, it has tons of nods and references but at the same time it's it's own thing, and it's pretty good at what it does, seriously that movie is great.

Aaand if you liked Day of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead then you'll probably like Day of the Dead, I can't guarantee it will be your favourite of the 3 like it is mine but it's pretty safe to assume that you'll like it, most people seem to think Dawn is the best one.

Some of my thoughts:

Shaun of The Dead is a fun zombie movie (hmmm... I feel like I just stated that oxygen is safe to breathe).

Some of these are going to be classics and mainstays, so fair warning.

Tremors! Tremors is a blast. The first one, that is.

Child's Play. The newer the sequel, the funnier and less serious they get. It's a movie set in the winter though, so... if you like your movies to be season appropriate (I dig this a lot for mood-setting), it might not be right just yet.

Someone beat me to The Lost Boys, so I'll second it. Classic movie.

ANY of the original slashers- Friday the 13th, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and although much more debatable, the reboots/modern remakes.

Nothing beats Hellraiser 1&2 for me. The first one was directed by Clive Barker, who penned the original novel the movie is based on. The second one is very close in spirit to the original. I've seen these movies so many times as a child that I know nearly every line by heart. I was totally mesmerized by them. :p The ones after Hellraiser 2 are all crap though.

But yeah, I can't recommend Hellraiser enough. Saying anything more would spoil the story. Apparently Clive Barker himself is currently writing a script for the remake of the original, which he is also going to direct just like in 1987! Even better with the use of practical make-up effects instead of CGI just like the original.

Can't go wrong with pretty much all of the suggestions so far.

I second this, but it also reminds me of something that hasn't been mentioned yet. Slither, which is in a very similar vein to Tremors, I feel.

It brings parasitic alien brain slugs, zombies, Nathan Fillion (if that's your bag) and Michael Rooker. James Gunn directed, it's funny and gory plus Gregg Henry is the most amazing small town mayor you could ever hope to see.

"Praise Jesus? That's fucking pushing it! This shit's about as far from God as shit can get! Either of you ever seen anything like that? You ever even heard of anything like that? Huh? Me neither... and I watch Animal Planet all the fucking time!"

If you want a funny deconstruction of the creepy redneck slasher genre, you can't beat Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Seriously, it's so good.

Yeah, I'll second/third the mention of both of these. Both are classics.

Oh, I didn't see that one AND I LOVE Nathan Fillion! And now, it's on the watch list! :)

Oh, yeah, I've almost forgotten the name of that one :)
It's a weird mix between humour and horror that does not always work, but Micheal J. Fox and the crazy FBI agent really sold this movie for me.

Guys, I've got to say, so far, you've got great taste (for the movies have seen) or good recommandation (for those I didn't ;)

A colleague of mine and I powered through all nine Hellraiser movies last year, and aside from the obvious fact that the first one is the best, they really do get progressively worse and worse - consistently. But the first one is Horror Canon. If we get a tenth, I'd HAVE to watch it!

That was a fine horror flick- good call.

That was a fun movie! Very entertaining.

One final one that I enjoyed, but is a bit on the strange side as far as pacing goes, is "Incident At Loch Ness" (2004), which hits alot of buttons for me...
It's a mockumentary within a mockumentary, has 'found footage' elements and pacing, Has Werner Herzog, is very tongue in cheek about damn near everything especially the movie business, and actually had some pretty decent special effects (and Kitana Baker in a bikini for no good reason other than, well, Kitana Baker in a bikini).

Personally I didn't enjoy it, it took the premise of the original, threw away all the fun and remade it as a straight horror, losing it's soul along the way.

I'm all for some of the "realistic reboots" these days, but when you miss what made Evil Dead the classic it is, well, it's a waste.

Though now a sound like a pretentious snob.

In the vein of fun horror's though, I did go see Tusk recently (mostly because of the Q&A with the director post film) and that was quite funny along with being nicely creepy in places (until it goes "full walrus" when it just goes downright silly, in a fun way).

It's quite different from much of what I've seen before, and I've watched a lot (bonus of first job being a video store clerk) but worth adding to the list if you like fun horror's (though I wouldn't go massively out of your way to catch it, one for video).

Otherwise I think most of my other fav's have been covered; Braindead, Slither (<3 Fillon! but he's distractingly very young looking in this), Tremors, Tucker & Dale..
