So, I think many people here on the Escapist will agree with me when I say gameplay is the most important aspect of what makes a game good or fun or generally enjoyable. Good gameplay can make a game with bad story, horrid graphics or bad presentation playable (mind you, sometimes the gameplay needs to be no less than stellar if everything else is bad).
I'd like to have a little discussion about this, the foundation of gaming, the glue that keeps it all together.
What kind of gameplay have you encountered that is fun or innovative in a exciting way? What is it that makes different games enjoyable or boring even though they are variations on "you have to kill the thing"?
What kind of gameplay do you want to see more of? What kind are you tired of? What kind do you think more people should be aware about because it is so new or different? What is it that keeps you coming back to the same game or series over and over again?
Me personally, I love gameplay that is simple to learn, difficult to master and require a lot of thinking. Gameplay like the kind seen in Fire Emblem and X-Com:Enemy Unknown is the first that comes to mind for me. If a game can have me ragequit one second just to make me fire it up again 10 sec later because "Wait! What if I try this?!" just make me feel fantastic, even when I lose.
