Right so I go to college and am doing A Levels. Been there for two weeks now and to be honest I dont think I will be capable of coping with the amount of work and 2 and a half hour lessons that this course entails later on. Especialy with subjects like History and English.
So Im thinking of taking A Btec National Diploma in Media Film/TV. This couse is basicly a mostly pratical course envolving going out and about and filming shit at a professional level. Problem is I have to enter it at a lower level which means spending a extra year in college before I can bugger off to University or whatever.
Now, I think I will have a great time with the Media Course. I have always had a intrest in making my own films and stuff and this course seems like a godsend for me. But it will leave me with very few options as I leave college aside from heading to University. Stick with the A Level couse on the other hand and sure, I will feel like shit for most of the year but when I get out I will have lots of options open to me.
So Escapist, what would you reccomend I do?

I would recommend going for it, not specially because it's a smart choice, but because you'll always regret not doing it. And you will often look back and think "Damn I wish I had taken that Media Course." So hell man, go for it.

"Useful later" will serve you best than "Fun now"
If you really want to have a career in this field then go for it.

but ask yourself why your taking the course your taking now, is it just for the sake of it? or will it lead you to a career you'd most prefer than where the other course in media will take you?

hmmm, tricky question, i think its generally best to take the path that leads to best options for the future, and to hell with the next couple of years, i mean, i attended 6th form cos it was fun but deep down i knew i was wasting a year of education, i'd undo it if i could but i cant, so, in the words of old boring people you wish would stop talking to you and go away, dont make the same mistake i did, k?

So... History/English are going to be more useful than Film/Media? I don't really understand.

Go for the one that's useful later. I don't really know anyone who enjoys their education all that much. And since you have the option to provide yourself with many more opportunities later in life, why not go for it? Unless you get to redo your A levels. Not really sure how this college thing works.
