This is just something I know about that adds a little personalization to the O/S, also is useful for removing a manufacturers name from your PC. Obviously I am not responsible if you screw up, and this is windows, so tread with care:
We are going to make this:
You can add your own manufacturer name and image to your PC to pretend you are awesome with PC's or to mess around with other peoples PC's (Not reccomended)
Difficulty 1/5
Skills needed:
Basic image editing
Basic computer knowledge
Competence
Time to complete : 5-20 mins
1) Pretty picture
Ok so first:
Create your image in the graphics editor of your choice and name it OEMLOGO.BMP (Must be saved as a .bmp file)
This is how mine came out:
Place this anywhere you want, but it can be placed in C:/windows/system32/ without any trouble.
2) Setup
You will need to open regedit (This is the important part, do not touch anything other than what is in this guide, a system restore will be required if you touch something your not meant to.)
You can open regedit on vista and 7 by going start>Searchbar>regedit then pressing enter
On xp Start>run>regedit
You will then need to navigate to a certain part of your registry for this to work:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/OEMInformation"
If OEMinformation is not present, create it by right clicking "currentversion" then create>new>Key and name it "OEMinformation".
It should look like this:
3) Bringing it all together
Now that you have a logo and the registry area we need to bring them both together, we do this by creating a new string value by right clicking the white area under "default" and pressing new>string value.
We shall call the first one: Logo
double click "logo" and enter the path name of your image eg. C:/windows/system32/ (replace the forward slashes with backslashes, the live preview isn't displaying backslashes)
We shall do the same to create a second one and we shall call it : Manufacturer
double click it again and enter the name of whoever you want to have made it, from chuck norris to parcelforce.
In the end, mine looked like this:

This changes your system properties to look like this:

4) Added little things
Other than Manufacturer and logo the following string names are available:
SupportHours
SupportPhone
SupportURL
*Useful if you do tech support*
This is my first time writing something like this, so if you think it's a waste of time, say so, I was just sharing something I liked, but if it is unnecessary I shall discontinue
