Dear Escapists

Next July myself, along with a large group of other students are going on a charity/scientific research trip to Cuba. However, we have to find the funds for this trip (around £2000) ourselves, and have been encouraged to work in groups to fund raise.

I know that a gaming site is perhaps not the best place to be looking for ideas of how to raise money, but I'm drawing something of a blank and I figured if anyone could come up with unique/innovative ideas it'd be the escapist community :p

Oh, and before you say 'get a job!' I've already sent out near on 100 CVs and application forms, but had no real response :/

How many balls in a jar.
Sponsored silence/marathons.
Car wash?
Charity casino night like on that one Simpsons episode.

whore your self out to 10 fat chicks for 200 (Squiggly sign denoting currency) Or whore yourself out to 2 really really fat chicks for 1000 -Quagmire- Giggidy

You can do atypical fundraising stuff like organize a carnival, carwash, bakesales, selling drugs, Book fairs, prayers to the dark Lord C`thulu, Gaining sponsorship from local area businesses in walkathons, mail campaigns asking for donations, sponsored blood drives, all kinds of good wholesome ideas to work with.

Emm, watch 'The Full Monty', should give you some ideas

Failing that, if your trip is for charity, try getting sponsored for something?
This.

Sponsored group run...sponsored waxing?...sponsored bungee jump...sponsored head shaving...the possibilities are endless:eek:.

If that doesn't work...err...well, 2 grand is 2 grand, and you gotta work for it><.

OR RESORT TO A LIFE OF CRIME>=]

One that was at my university last year was a Super Smash Bros. tournament (could probably do wii bowling or something instead I guess). Everyone paid like $5 to enter or something, and the winner got a prize in the end. I didn't enter, but I heard a lot of people had a good time. :)

My friends did something like that, but they went to Africa.
They did fancy dresses, bun sales, someone auctioned off some art they did, concerts, etc.
If you have any talents, exploit them!

Hmm... Do a BlogTV live fund-raising show, but about what? It must be something that will attract a lot of people.

Ask any/or all of your local produce store/s to donate all of its rotten fruit an vegetables, get the three "largest" members of your group to wear waste suits and run around while people pay money to throw the rotten fruit at them.

Edit: you should include prizes for hitting one of them so many times with a certain type of fruit.

A lot of good ideas floating around, my advise is start simple and do things with a really low input cost, stuff like car wash, sponcered gaming maraton/run/swim/cycle. Then you can take some of the proceeds to help pay for more elaborate larger scale events (bungie jumps/sky dives etc).

If any of you have a creative/artistic talent exploit it steadily, don't flush a potential market.

Once you get to about £1800, go back to the really cheap events, that way in case one bombs you don't end up further away.
