Ah, I wondered if that was the case. For future, similar, conversations, I'd suggest making that clear from the beginning, as it really confuses people like me who like clear subcategorization. :p

Dangers of conversation on an internet forum. :V

Mortai Gravesend said:
No, it's pretty clear you were just plain wrong on that point.
Now that I read it a gain, I goof'd and should have said "delusion implies disorder" and not the other way around. Converse is not the same thing as the contra-positive and all that.

Anyway, as I said, given the context of the article, it's pretty clear that Gerbasi is regarding SID as a mental disorder and nothing else (which is what I was getting at.)

It doesn't hurt, but there's no reason to give it much consideration unless there is some lead to follow.
When you're simply brainstorming things, nothing hurts, and most things can be eliminated pretty quickly without the need for further investigation. :p
I dunno... A storm in your brain sounds kind of painful.

GET IT?!

I can see their point, I mean humans as a whole do kind of suck. I mean Polar bears do not hat Black bears, they do not go to war, they rarely if ever kill out of spite.

I think i even participated in this poll, I did not say not human but they broke it way down and I would say on some level people relate to some form of fantastic avatar. So yeah i can totally see their point.

Okay, this is going to be a huge non-sequitur. I've seen you post about transgender stuff and things, so I apologize in advance if this seems offensive or anything (and if you want to continue this particular conversation, it'll probably be better if it went to PMs instead of bumping the thread. :p)

I started reading about GID on Wikipedia because of this thread, and so I started reading all the transgender stuff, and...holy shit how on earth do you guys keep all this shit straight? I suppose being a standard white heteronormative guy means that it's going to be pretty hard for me to conceptualize being more than one gender (or not having one at all), but...man. The article on Two-Spirits helped a bit, as I follow a Native American style belief system, but once you get to the concept of "third" gender my head just kinda shuts down and hurts for a while.

So you are a furry then? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

You know, kind of like furry stuff I guess, if you're born that way, it's just how you are. Like, people who are born blind don't think about it being hard to be blind, ya know. Despite the thought of being blind to us average people sucking major ass, lol.

I could honestly ask you the reverse question with equal curiosity--what's it like to really "feel" your gender? Tough question.

Not that surprising really. I mean Furries are pretty 'other' so I'm not surprised they'd feel a disconnect from "humanity".

I imagined your avatar saying it in his or her doggy voice. Made the comment so much more awesome.

Hey, being blind is only the loss of one sense--you have four (sometimes five) more, and depending on the length of blindness, they'll be hella sharper for not having sight. For me, the only thing bad about being blind is that I wouldn't be able to play video games anymore. :p

Anyway. I mean, I understand the whole "I was born this way" thing, that makes sense to me. What bakes my noodle is when you start trying to separate biological sex and gender. Take the hijra, for example--they're described as being "third gender," but they're defined as male individuals that espouse feminine characteristics. But then you get into the question of "well, what is feminine (or masculine)? Isn't it largely a social construct that's based on the days when we were little more than animals--yet it logically shouldn't serve much purpose in an advanced society like ours? If they're supposed to be a 'third' gender, why do we define them using gender characteristics that are by-and-large binary?"

Now, as to why do I feel male? That's a difficult question to answer without stumbling across the social construct of masculinity, which seems to be the point here. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Hey, welcome to my life, lol. Shit is a constant confusion.

I decided a little while ago that I'm pretty well done with gender. In my eyes, it doesn't actually serve any meaningful purpose (at least not in my life) and I don't need the confusion. So I scrapped it! I'm just me. *shrug* Whatever someone wants to label it, they can go ahead.

You know that is real ambiguous question, I mean yes I would defiantly say I am but there are just so many levels. Some people say you have to go to cons or suit to be one, some say you have to feel a deep connection to an animal to the point where you feel like you are that animals in some way to be a furry, which is what the atrial is over more or less. None of

these apply to me yet I would still think I am a furry, always have been through books, video game and movies and such. Video games in particular once you make an avatar at least when I do it represents you and mine are almost never human. Even think of the races simply called "human" in most games they are always young self entitled pricks that have a few of the world best leaders but all in all are more or less the douchebags.

Well, the researches concluded the generally accepted terms of the furry fandom were simply an interest in anthropomorphic beings.

I know, like i say I may have even taken the poll. Just pointing out the lengths people will go to so they are and you are not a "real" furry, this exists in a lot of cultures. Just like the "only hard core gamers are real gamers" mentality.

Yeah, that mentality is stupid and totally not constructive in the least.

No, there's a fucking genome that says you're human. If you don't think that, congratulations, you have a personality disorder.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to say that if you think you're not human, you're probably some form of crazy.

Despite what the internet may say, there's nothing wrong with being a furry, you like what you like and it's good to be in a fandom and with a community of others like you and finding acceptance among a group of your peers. And it's possible to connect with animals and identify with the spirit of certain animals.

But, we're all still human, and if someone honestly, truly believes that they are not 100% homosapien, then they are nutty.

Speaking as a furry myself, I have to say that there may be a screw loose with the "WE AREN'T HUMAN" furries.

Then again, I have more of a passing interest than hardcore "OMG, ANIMAL-SEX IST SO HAWT! *Foaming*"... I have talked to some raving mad ones .__.

Anyway, Human is an aspect that we humans have given ourselves. We are all still animals, the only difference between us and all other animals is the fact that we are arseholes >:3 And if people say "WE HAVE GAINED CONTROL OF OUR INSTINCTS" I will say just one word: Bullshit. Lusting for sex is parts of ones instincts, and we humans (After a certain age, and most of us) crave it... So yeah. Don't try to say I am wrong you pervy, pervy people >:3
