I'm pretty sure Miyazaki is behind this one. The company got bought out, and now he's president of From Soft. He made it pretty clear that he would be personally involved in every game they make from now on. Besides, the new game has Miyazaki's signature style to it. That was noticeably lacking in Dark Souls 2. It didn't feel like a Miyazaki game.Skatalite said:That's never going to happen. After a hundred years, another factor defining "classic" is whether it still exists in some available format. Whilst in theory Epic Movie could become the greatest comedy, what tends to happen is that shitty movies get left behind every time the next generation of media storage comes along. Half of all the films made before the 50s are permanently lost. People didn't have the foresight or fondness to find a proper way to preserve them. This is already becoming a problem with games, as the more obscure, less popular titles from a couple of decades ago are already getting lost.Something Amyss said:I'm pretty sure it's more [game I personally like].maninahat said:So its essentially games who's other qualities can outlive their contemporary graphical limitations (that is to say, classic games look like ass after a decade or two, but are enjoyable enough for that not to matter).
"Classic" is hard to predict anyway I suppose it's safest to go with your faves. After all, in 100 years, Twilight could be the best book series, Ride to Hell could be the ultimate video game, and Epic Movie could be the greatest comedy of a lifetime.
Sort of, for about a year, but the guys who made Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls just finished up The Old Hunters, so that only leaves the Dark Souls II team. Bandai Namco is probably going to milk this series as much as they can (with a comic already coming).Fox12 said:I'm pretty sure Miyazaki is behind this one. I'd call that partially true, but even a lot of popular films and music and television have been lost to time. I mean, do you really think Doby Gillis was more popular than Superman or Doctor Who? I bet you've had at least one moment of "how did [X] come out before [Y] on DVD?" in your life, too.maninahat said:After a hundred years, another factor defining "classic" is whether it still exists in some available format. Bandai Namco isn't in charge anymore. From Soft was bought out by Kudokawa, which proceeded to promote Miyazaki to president, and give him more creative freedom. He stated that he will now be in charge of every game From Soft makes. Miyazaki confirmed that this will be the last Dark Souls game before they move onto other projects. He was unhappy with the last game, so he wants to clarify the themes of the series before bringing it to a close. He's also said that he isn't interested in large franchises, and that a series should be finished before it becomes over saturated. Evidently the next game he wants to make is either going to be sci-fi, or possibly a mech game.Skatalite said:Sort of, for about a year, but the guys who made Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls just finished up The Old Hunters, so that only leaves the Dark Souls II team. Alright, that does sound good. I'd love to see him making a sci-fi game. I also remember reading about him wanting to do something like Ico, but anything is fine with me as long as he stops doing Dark Souls, at least for a while.Fox12 said:Bandai Namco isn't in charge anymore.
