With all of this new peripheals (idc ab spelling) like the move and kinect and nintendo having the 3ds i was wondering what new thing in gaming are u looking forward too. By this I mean what that hasnt been mainstreamed yet are you looking forward to or just hoping will come true. Personally, i can not for a full VR system with games.

Well i just learned about this old game called Steel Battalion... IT LOOKS AWESOME, the huge ass controller that interacts with what happens in the game and demands that you maintain heat level and other stats... it LOOKS like it adds a huge level of interaction between player and game. I would so buy it if they came out with more games for it besides Steel Battalion. They should make a fighting game for the peripheral along with some space combat sims and other robot war games i would SOOO BUY IT! IT WOULD BE AMAZING! at least for me im not sure who else likes the huge controller but i think i would LOVE it.

I'm pretty content with what it is now because I know if there was a virtual reality system I don't think I would leave some of my favorite games for a long time.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I feel. While motion controls are trying the move towards VR, the added lag in the controllers breaks any immersion gained. Full VR is the only foreseeable way of making videogames significantly more immersive. Until then, I'll stick to my headphones, large monitor, and responsive keyboard and mouse.

Very true. Full VR brings in some tough issues because it would obviously be preferable to reality, but I'll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, full VR would be the shit.

Not the right attitude when making a thread.

Peripherals, motions controls and 3D shizz are just a phase gaming seems to be going through. It'll all fade back into obscurity again like it has before.

There is a reason controllers like the Power Glove and the Laser Scope never took off, and that's because it was easier to do it all with our hands and buttons.

I hope they don't try it ever again.

Virtual Reality will be coming once some scientist manages to map all the electronic signals made by neurons firing into usable data. The next stage would then be making the neurons fire by inputting specific waves. Then would come creating a virtual interactive world directly in the brain.

But a lot of stuff has to happen first y'know.

There is a sequel to Steel Battalion but sadly it's just those two games that work with that massive, awesome controller.

And then it needs to be available to consumers. After that in needs to be priced in such a way that people can actually afford it. Yeah, it's gonna be a long time before everyone has VR in their homes...

The new peripherals haven't really impressed me. I think that there are other areas games should work on first. I have a Wii and the controller waggle doesn't add much when you are controlling lifeless avatars.

With the increased production value of games, I think the next step for future games should be texture scans, motion capture animation and voice acting from Hollywood stars mixed with movie quality plots. Imagine if a future game let had you play as Jackie Chan and the character looked, sounded, moved and behaved like the actual artist. I think that this could add a lot to games because of the appeal of immediately recognizable characters. A good example of mixed media at work is Shrek. It starred Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy and their voice acting ability really brings the characters to life more than most video game actors have been able to. Very few games get this right.

Cyberwalk would be cool too, for when Holodecks are finally invented: http://boingboing.net/2010/04/29/cyberwalk-a-giant-om.html

mind control seems to be the next big thing, If I'm not mistaken it's already possible however it's not yet at a stage were it's very effective, it's easily used (not mainstream yet...) anyway I'm looking forward to it and it's far better than these "motion" controllers.

I have a hard time envisioning gaming's future because it's so damn unpredictable (Street Fighter vs Tekken! In our lifetime! Amazing!), but personally, I'm eagerly anticipating the day when Square-Enix finally steps up to the plate and releases a proper Final Fantasy Collection. As in, FFs I through, say, XII, maybe with a few notable spinoffs (FFT, Dissidia, Ehrgeiz) available as unlockable bonuses.

Also, holodecks. I really, really want holodecks.
