Bachelor pre-party at my place playing some 4 player something or other with my wedding party dudes... it was time to head out for our reservation at the steak joint and they all leaped towards the PS2 to shut it down... someone flicked the switch on the back while some other newb was punching the power and eject buttons on the front. Wiped my memory card of every saved game and bricked the card to boot... no more GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas saves (currently was playing through San Andreas) -- sports game franchises... everything gone just like that. Needless to say I was not happy camper for the rest of the night.
I was playing thief 3, and i was on the keeper mission, so i saved at the beginning of the level, as i always do. the level was really easy, until the end when the difficulty spikes and stone monsters appear everywhere. i had to sneak up a staircase to a glyph to beat the level, but there was a statue guarding it, and Garret is useless against those people. so i hid on a bookcase, and tossed an elaborate trap of mines to blow up the guy at intervals on the staircase. he walked into one, and set off all the others at the same time, while taking only one hit.

I said "screw the sneaky approach" and jumped off the case to make a sprint for the finish. i landed on one of my own mines that i didn't see

I have one bar left, and so i continue with my sprint plan, and hit the glyph. you have to climb up a ladder to leave, so i headed up it, but bot stuck after the second rung, and my lights were punched out by a guy made of granite.

Playing FF7 back on the original Playstation. Had gone through all kinds of crazy, had all master materias, a full stable of golden chokobos at S racing level, all ultimate weapons, Knights of the Round, and beat all the Weapons roaming the planet.
I was ready to kick some Sephiroth ass.
At the final save point I, of course, save my game. As it is in the process of saving, my house loses power. You know how they always tell you: Don't turn off power while saving, ect. Well, they mean it.
My save data was corrupted. Went so far as to actually corrupt the save data of every game save that I had on that card. I don't think I have been quite so angry and disappointed in my entire life as I was at that moment. I might have actually wept.

I was playing Fallout 3 and i paused the game to go to the toilet, i came back and my Xbox had the Red Ring of Death. Not only did i lose all my progress because i hadn't saved the game for like 5 hours (and had auto-save turned off) but i had to go spend money on a new Xbox.
