Starting tomorrow London is going to be besiegd by people protesting the G20 summit. Personally, I'm still trying to decide which protest to go on. I think I will definitely attend the Climate Camp in the City (1st April, 12pm, Bank of England) as it is only about ten minutes walk from where I live. I also hope to attend the alternative G20 at the University of East London later next week.

So, anyone else going? What are your thoughts on the protest?

I protest!

Poland should be there - we are 21st according to Internation Monetary Fund and CIA World Factbook and 19th according to World Bank.

Okay, seriously - why would anyone protest against this?

Protesting about the 20 richest countries meeting? What are they going to form an evil empire to take over the planet or something?

You didn't get the memo? Somebody is slacking off on the job. /sarcasm
Honestly, I don't see the issue here, what will most likely happen is a huge group hug, making some s'mores, and then ghost stories.
Ok, now /sarcasm

Gordon Brown here, yes, we are going to meet, and talk about how we killed the banking system, plunged most of the world into MORE debt and are now planning to take your freewill.

Ok, the protests aren't attempting to prevent the world leaders form meeting. Rather, they are intended to demonstrate that many people disagree with the priorities of the heads of states and governments. Many issues are covered to name a few, trade unions, climate change, debt relief, gender equality, corporate responsibility, opposition to neo-liberalism etc.

The goal is to show these world leaders that many people disagree with their policies and want to see a change in the international political agenda. Depending on your cause you go to the most relevant protest. So if you want to protest lack of government action on climate change you go to the Bank of England at 12pm on Wednesday 1st of April. That's not to say other issue won't be raised at these rallies but the organisers have attmepted to break them up based on different issues.

The collective term for these protests is the 'Anti-globaisation Movement' or simply 'The Movement'

There are loads of groups looking to move in on the G20 summit, even the ones who have nothing to do with protesting it are going there just to try and grab publicity, people are targeting banks and big companies as well, it looks like something bad could very well happen, sounds like fun. I would go up their with my local anarchist group but I'm really lazy, and sensible. Here's some of the things the police are worried about

I will not be going. In fact i'm working elsewhere for the week due to fears of violence against workers. Why? If you do go, don't attack people in suits - called "beat the banker!" Protesting shouldn't be an excuse for mindless violence and rioting.

I've just come back from the 'People first' protest and I have to say it was it was completely peacful. There were alot of police present but there were riots or violence. Don't worry, we'll leave the human rights violations and the killing to the banks and the Governments

There are more protests later this week so you still have time. I can put a list up if you like.
