in the recent months, my computer seemed to have taken an offense to my gaming, and will protest my efforts at gaming every so often. I can stand it no longer!

whenever i play a videogame on my computer (Mount&blade, Portal, Half-life2, Penumbra Overture, etc), after a few minutes of playing, my gamewill suddenly lag HORRIBLE, going down to about 1 frame-per-second... and then it eventually randomly goes away after a little bit. at first i thought it was steam(which i uninstalled/reinstalled), but even my non-steam games have the problem. so far the only game i've played on my computer that hasn't had this problem is World of Goo, and that may only be because i haven't played it for an extended period of time. currently, whenever it happens, all I can do is just pause the game and wait it out, but I've had it! this is driving me insane!

this is really annoying me, and I want to fix it so i can actually game. any ideas on what the problem is/what the solution might be?

EDIT: i use the original graphics card that my computer came with (which i think is a 'NVIDIA GeForce 9100')

Sounds like your videocard is having seizures. Probably heat related... Pull it and check it's not all caked with dust and lint. Also check that, if it has a fan, that the fan is working properly and not unbalanced. Probably a good time to get a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out of the system.

get a bigger case and a liquid cooling system and maybe give each part a deep cleaning and fine adjustments...
