I know I will never play this game. I do have a GC and PS2, but for some reason this game never held my interests.
It came out when I was still a harried dad, primary on taking care of the kids. When I could play a game, I needed it to be one I could save at any moment as I would be disturbed to do something at any moment all the time (or it was late and I was too tired to play!). This has, as I recall as it has been some time, a long opening with no way to save your progress. So I kept replaying the same 15 min. or so and got exasperated. But I hear it is good and should give it a shot. I have it digital on my PS3 and in my Ubisoft PC App but so many other things are out now that my HAADD keeps me from getting back to it. Some day. I'll be in a nursing home with a staffer saying, "Gorfias, you been playing that same 15 minutes of game daily for 3 years now".

I was 14 when that came out and interested in other things. When Beyond G & E came out, I was addicted to Ikaruga and played that for months on end. Along with some other games as well around that time. I appreciate the recommendation, but I am so focused on other games right now.

Didn't have that one! Looks like one I'll have to get ASA... oh stop it Gorfias and work on your existing pile of shame!!!!

But seriously, wish I'd had it! I must have something similar.... reviewing.

The good news is Ikaruga is available on all modern platforms. The bad news is that none of them are as good as the GC version. They're not inherently bad nor have game breaking bugs, but all of the modern versions lack the GC's training modes and practice modes. The practice mode allowed you to practice each specific section in a stage the further you got. The GC version did have limited continues, but you gave you more and later free credits the more you played. The modern ports just give you free credits at the start, so there's some minor benefit there.

Gonna admit I know very little about Korean Culture so I can't verify how accurate any of this is but it is interesting. Especially the part about the plane crash which was apparently mostly avoidable if not for communication issues in the cockpit.

Haven't watched the video but the plane crash story is actually kinda bullshit, it circulate because it was picked up in a pseudo science book (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outliers_(book)) that got popular so it attained some notoriety, but it got severely distorted to fit the writer story.
