A lot of people have been talking about the crippling bugs they've been seeing in Fallout: New Vegas and it got me thinking about game breakers.

Ever played a game that was so riddled with bugs it was unplayable? did you ignore them and play on? never play it again? wait and prey for a patch?

I remember really enjoying Boiling Point: Road to Hell despite apparently skipping the playtesting phase of development completely. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines was one I really liked that I'm glad to say was (somewhat) saved by it's community and user-made patches but was unplayable before.

So...what about you and your experiences??

Morrowind for the Xbox is a veritable treasure trove of game-breaking bugs and glitches. For example, there's always a chance that the save system will royally screw you over. When exploring an underwater cavern in Solstheim once, I saved the game right before I went under the surface again and turned the game off. When I fired it back up again, I discovered that the game had moved my character inside a nearby rock, rendering it impossible for me to move. My previous save was from a good five hours earlier, and I just couldn't bring myself to go back that far. My level 23 Orc warrior all decked out with Daedric weapons and armor was finally defeated by a screwy save system. I pretty much gave up on the Xbox version after that.

A few years later I got Morrowind for the PC, and it's much more stable. It helps that you can download mods that address many of the game's issues as well.

Had a baseball game for the 360 iirc it was All-star baseball, and it would always jam in the 3rd inning because of some bug and at the time I didn't have xbox live so I couldn't download a patch. Eventually I got to where I could hit the A button at a specific time right before the inning ended and it wouldn't lock up, but that was after numerous games played trying to find something that'd work.

I can't play Dragon Age for an hour without it jamming... It's annoying because I only got to finish the main story once. But that's not strictly speaking the games fault.

The game Battlefield 2142 at the beginning had an absolutely gamebreaking glitch that happened every time (until the patch 1.5 came out). It was that the character's gun would start leaving behind a green trail when you moved your head, so much so the screen turned bright green. It also made the vehicle's screens at certain areas just suddenly grey so you couldn't see a thing. Finally the audio would cut out randomly and you had to restart the game just to get it back. Thank god that patch came out about 1 day after I got the game or else i would have thrown it out. Now its my favorite multiplayer game : )

Far Cry 2 had one where a character I needed to talk to had spawned bellow where he should have, and I couldn't continue. No biggie I thought, I keep 3+ saves for just such a occasion. I load a save from just before I started the mission, nope still broken. A little earlier? No dice. A save from the previous area? No. The game basically said halt no more fun for you... or it would have if the NPC could stop saying "ow" every 4 seconds.
