Feel free to type about a game breaking bug you once had in this thread.

gothic 2: like the game quite a lot but the bug I encountered is just greatly annoying

earlier I noticed enemies I once was able to reliably and easily kill got harder.
I figured out the cause due. despite be at the skill level of master for the sword types, gameplay wise something happened and I am fighting on the rookie level.

for reference you start the game at skill level of rookie and that means you suck at fighting gameplay wise. combat at that point in game is not smooth and you are terrible at it(sucky combat). when at a higher levels like master skill, the combat is easier to manage because if feels much smoother and you become more effective. sort like in real life if you took replaced the word level with something else.

I would bring down my skill level back to a rookie level with cheats, and then give my self learning points with cheats to being my self back to that level claim I am at. the problem is I have not found any possible way to reduces my skill level so far. all I could find while search about a solution is some post back in 2009 on another website where someone had the same problem I am having. There only one reply and it did not give a solution to the problem.

it's manageable and god maode can turned on when needed to make up for it but it's annoying enough to make me want to start a new game

Yay the game fixed it self.
a rookie fighting skill fighting 2 lizard warriors at once was almost certain death, and if I survived it would be with barley any health left. with a high weapon skill I end up being able to kill one of them faster thus making it a simple 1v1 fight.
with master level skill return it has greatly increased my chance of survival. i still at one point ended up reloading the game 4 times before managing to beat beating 3 orc warriors at once. Even at ones best a high weapon skill fight few armed enemies at once who can compliantly damage you is a bad idea

The huge, game-crashing purple Alduin at the beginning of day-1 Skyrim. Barbas was not amused.

star trek online. the infamous toolbar and loadout bug

basically if you get hit with this particular glitch your toolbars reset every time you transition maps from ground to your ship which makes ship combat infinitely harder and the game pretty unplayable, the worst part, this has been a bug for years now and has only gotten worse since the delta rising expansion last month

theres a gamebreaking issue with garrysmod that has existed for quite some time, where when you download workshop addons in the main menu on a 32 bit system with low memory you tend to crash... a lot (and manages to take steam down with it entirely). the same thing will sometimes happen when joining gmod servers but in this case steam doesnt crash with it at least.

Really? i've been playing STO for about a year now and i've never seen it, or even seen it mentioned by anyone else I know who plays it.

Hey guys do we remember how towards the final levels of ZombiU there were doors which locked themselves and grids which deactivated themselves with no way out of the room? No? Good, 'cos I'm trying to forget it!

I spent an hour playing BioShock 2. I got less than five minutes through the game, because the game crashed every time I tried to play it.

Eventually it crashed while I was attempting to save it, and then the game started crashing before even reaching the title screen.

I have since found a link about how to fix it. Someday I might get round to playing it.

I also had DuckTales: Remastered crash just as the final cutscene ended. I was genuinely terrified about the thought of having to re-fight the final boss.

The third one I've experienced is Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. There's one specific area where the cutscene doesn't always load. I only learned about this after spending ages trying to figure out what to do before finally bothering to check a walkthrough and realising that a cutscene was meant to play. After even more searching I found out the only known way of loading it was to replay the whole chapter and hope for the best. I love that game, but that pissed me off so much when I was first playing it.

In Fallout New Vegas, I have a bug going on where it just won't load up my save files. For some reason, the files just don't load, and the only way to fix it is to sign out of my computer, resign in, and then load an earlier file, and hope that it works.

In Fallout 3, when I downloaded The Pitt DLC, I developed a lovely bug, that would cause my save files to revert back to level 1, standing outside Vault 101. The save file thumbnail picture would still look like wherever I was in The Pitt, and have my level and time stamp and everything....but loading it up....nothing, lvl 1, Vault 101, total reset of everything.

Needless to say, THAT was damn annoying. I never experienced a lot of the crazy bugs in games like Fallout or Skyrim that other people always had, but holy fuck did those games mess with my save files.

I recently tried to replay the first Metal of Honor on my PS3 and on the second level in the third mission I kept getting this weird glitch where large chunks of the world seemed to be ripped away when I wasn't looking leaving only a black void. I could walk into the void, but I couldn't interact with the area I needed to plant the bomb.

Other than that I can't really think of any bugs I've experienced that I couldn't work around. I'm just lucky like that.

The first one springs to mind is the infamous 'chapter 9 transition crash' from Betrayal in Antara. See the chapter 8 end cinematic... Watch the chapter 9 end cinematic... "Fatal Error: Antara is ungracefully shutting down!" There was a patch released on a PC Gamer demo disc specifically to fix this issue- it didn't help me. Neither did clean installations or switching machines. Years later, I found another copy of the game at a used bookstore and, running a Mosloed version of the game in a Mosloed version of Dosbox (and still lurching forward ten feet with each step), I finally managed to beat it.

Then we have the Void bugs in Daggerfall, wherein a quest-critical enemy could fall through the ground (or a wall) and become inaccessible, leaving the quest unbeatable unless you found where they fell through, also fell through, then hunted them down.

The most notable one, however, is probably skiing in Starsiege: Tribes. It's a glitch. It has always been a glitch, and will always continue to be so, no matter what the community, or the reviewers, or the developers themselves say (also, get off my lawn!). At the time I started playing the game, it would get you banned from most servers. The interesting thing about this bug is that, while it broke the game, it let it be rebuilt into something else- something that really isn't bad- yes, it still annoys me (well, would if I were still playing the game), but the satisfaction that comes from sending a laser blast through someone's head from a distance so big that you can't even see them at less than 20x zoom while they zip around, bouncing off the landscape and fully confident in their invincibility, is not only worth the eighteen times they'd spinfusor you to death, but made the whole bug worth it.

The Twilight Princess bug in the cannon room. An NPC wouldn't appear that you need to talk to to use the cannon/exit the room. Thus you are stuck. It also happens really late in the game too so it's so much worse!

Force Unleashed 2 for PC. It always crashes in a certain cutscene, preventing any progress past that point. It's apparently a pretty common issue and Steam is aware of it, yet sells the game anyway and refuses all refunds for it. I just count myself lucky that the first one still works fine.

AC3 isn't quite as bad since you can technically continue on with the game, but it will still freeze after half an hour of gameplay if you have a certain amount of VRAM or something (I have a 3GB GTX580.) It also gets stuck or freezes in a couple of missions requiring you to ctrl-alt-del. And those carts carrying hay around are always blinking in and out of existence. If you're in one when it disappears, you can't move at all. This is the worst experience I've had with an AC game and combined with the butchered controls it convinced me to drop the series.

Funny how out of the hundreds of PC games I own, the only two to give me significant issues probably had a higher budget than 95% of the others.

Bethesda regularly releases collections of game-breaking bugs that are fairly notable for having segments of gameplay in between them, though they are brief.

Dragon Age Origins for PC. Love the game but some random hardware builds cause the game to run your processor so hot that your PC will shut down to protect itself.

Then there is the memory leak. Regardless of build once you get about 25-30 hours into the game there is a good chance that the game will crash at random. Sometimes you can go a few hours, sometimes you can only go 20 mins.
