Game Clichés you hate the most

If there's one Cliché in video games that I am tired of seeing is the mechanic that makes you collect items from corpses and boxes. I don't mind pressing a button to collect something, but I hate it when games do what Borderlands, Bioshock, and Deus Ex have you collecting items from boxes and dead bodies. You press the X/A button, it shows you what inside, then you press again to collect them all. I don't know, I just feel like it's just wasting my time. If your gonna something like that, at least do what Dead Space and RE5 do and just press a button once to collect Ammo, health, or est. What about you? Have any Clichés in games your hate?

White 30 something brown haired protagonists with a 5o'clock shadow. I don't know why they annoy me so much but they will turn me off from a game.

Also grit, dirt, angst and realism. They always seem to go together, I prefer my fantastical games.

Congratulations of winning that fight/making that jump/reasoning with that person now you're going to get defeated/fall off/make them angry or something.
What's that? You lost/missed/didn't reason with them initially? Well sonny Jim, that's a game over for you.

I hope that's understandable enough. Bloody annoying too.

Hmmm... How about bullet + red barrel (gas tank, propane) = 10kg of dynamite worth of explosions ?

Or how about this... Even the lowliest soldier knows how to do everything and wield every gun invented. Whether it's driving a nuclear sub to just piloting a bloody jet they can somehow just do it.

Though my personal favourite is this. In games like Skyrim or World of Warcraft you have animals or being that carry objects that just don't make any sense. For instance, why is the wolf carrying a supply of health potions ? Did he stuff 'em up his ass?

That's mine. It's in the same vein of a boss you just killed apparently didn't have his cool weapons and armor with him while he was kicking your ass with it.

I second these. I cry tears of joy every time I have the option to play a non-white (sometimes non-male) character. Those same tears come back whenever I see warm, vibrant colors or hand-drawn sprites.

Other hated cliches include:

-The shoe-horned romance subplot.

-Black and White morality (unless its being played for laughs)

-Tolkien-esque Fantasy (Must it always be elves and dwarves until the end of time?)

You must eat every 30 minutes/gas up your car/wash the dishes/manage a house/drive drunk friends home/any number of chores because realism.

Why is star wars 1313 a gritty, realistic, mature game? Because every fucking thing has to be a gritty, realistic, and mature thing these days. If a katamari game was made today, it would be grey and brown and probably make you clean toilets or fight child molesting criminal murderer car thiefs because that's gritty and mature and shit. And the opening cutscene would be half an hour long with the king describing his abusive parents because that's dramatic.

Because as we all know, gritty, realistic, mature dramas are the only things that are ever good. Why are they good? Because they're gritty, realistic and mature. If you don't like them, you're obviously a caveman that's entertained by jingling keys and pretty lights, you plebian monkey.

Compulsory socialising with imaginary friends. There is no point.

Also, obnoxious bloom. If I wanted partial blindness, I could just go to the fridge and get pissed.

"You are the chosen one"

I like just being the guy who kicks a lot of ass because I'm cooler than Fonzie x2. I don't want destiny riding me all day making sure I win.

Is "good guy win, bad guy loses" a cliche? Because if it is i choose that . I want the bad guy to win despite all oir efforts just to change shit up .

If that doesn't count then:

THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP ! Fuck friendship . Friendship does not triumph over all .

So you just killed at least 50 guys and reached their boss, now we will take all control out of your hands and let him stab you or something. Pretty much this. When it happened in farcry 3 it really pissed me off for some reason.

The women who can't defend themselves. It has been done well before, but when it's "I'm a women and I can't fight or I can't shoot a gun because of reasons of I dunno lol."

I just CAN'T DO THAT! NO ORIGINALITY AT ALL! Damn! Ok, that's that rant over with.

Fuckin funny. I don't know why I just found that funny as hell.

On topic I think anything can work. I am tired of people ripping off lord of the rings though.

Minecraft references.

Don't get me wrong, I like Minecraft. But did I miss the part where every other triple-A game is now required to make an easter egg about it?

Involuntary slow-mo segments in set-pieces.

Though i'm perfectly fine with slow motion when utilized as a purposeful game mechanic.
It just sorta annoys me when a game feels obliged to slow down at particular moments during explosions, shooting, and other various contrived set-pieces so much that it eventually becomes the equivalent of an annoying friend going: "Oh look how cool this is!", every now and then.
It's cool when used sparingly but ultimately dry when demonstrated pointlessly at a: "WOW! Look at the production values!" set-piece that I just happen to stumble by for the thousandth time in a single mission.

"Edgy" games

I'm not too much of a fan of the influx of gritty, edgy games that constantly yell out: "Look how bad the world sucks!" through bloody settings and one-sided macho characters, but never giving me a compelling reason to really sympathize.
As Jim Sterling had pointed out; games generally began after the tragedy, but usually never feels like depicting the happier world it once was in order to get any true sympathy out the player.

This one always get me as well, even when I played the hell out of Ocarina of Time there was still that whole destiny thing and being pushed around by it. It's just such a boring way of telling a story and easily allows for that lazy writing of people just giving you shit just because you're their last hope.

Action time events. Just... no.
Also, those characters that just can't stay dead and buried.

the "you don't get to use your weapons or abilities in this area because X will happen if you do" cliche. If you are going to do that, take all my weapons away and let me fend for myself, don't just say do something like "shooting will cause these deactivated nukes to explode!" or something like that.
