Game console for a 6 year old

Was just asked by my neighbors what console I would recommend for there 6yo boy.

I was dumbstruck and couldn't answer. I just couldn't think of any child friendly games on the ps3 or xbox360. They said they don't want a wii.

So my question is what console and what 6yo friendly games would you recommend?

An old one. My cousin got a Gameboy Color a year or two ago and loved it. Tell them to get her an N64 or something like that. It's cheap, fun, and family friendly. But, just out of curiosity, why don't they want a Wii?

Sadly there aren't any kid-friendly consoles or games anymore.

This is all that springs to my mind too.
They don't want a Wii, 360 has few games for 6 y.o, e.g Forza, Viva Pinata.
Same story for PS3, I assume, just different games.

Any particular reason why they didn't want one?

I guess XBox 360, simply because it's got curvier controllers, so as not to tear up his delicate hands. Also, prettier colored buttons.

I love games but a 6 year old should be outside getting scrapped and having physical fun.

Probably a handheld like a Nintnedo DS.

The 360 and the PS3 don't exactly have many games for 6 year olds and seeing as they don't want a wii, while the DS has things like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Cooking Mama etc. plenty of kiddie friendly games. It's also the cheapest option.

There are probably more child friendly games on the Xbox 360 than the PS3 but not by a lot.

I would recommend... recommending a PS2. A massive amount of games for everyone and it is pretty cheap.

The Wii is the best system for them if they want a new one, but a Gamecube would be just as good.

A DS is also a good idea

A gamecube or maybe a gameboy. I'm sure you can still find the squarish looking GBAs around.

They didn't want a wii because he has already tried one and didn't like it, they have a ds already and are looking for a console and not a handheld.

Banjo and Kazoie Nuts and Bolts and NHL 10 are good games that are E and Rock band is still good for kids dispite being T.
DS would be best for kids but if they dont like the wii, they may not like nintendo, which would be a shame.
