So how much time was devoted to the show considering Happy Harry can make incredibly fluent and detailed flash animations in around 4-5 months?
To be fair that guy is incredibly talented, not everyone can be that good.

Hmm the idea of "why the hell not" could be interesting in future episodes depending on how far such mantra is taken. For instance if it's completely random it could be genius or just a mess.

Episode 1 made me laugh, Episode 2 I understand was the whole story element (which I suppose is nice to see) but I would've liked a higher joke content. Looking at the other shows on this site it's clear to see that, apart from there will be brawl, the story isn't all that important.

My favourite show is Doomsday Arcade; there's some vague plot but I'm really there for the jokes and the fairly impressive special effects. I'd suggest if your going to have story driven episode you need bigger deals then " a new boss".

Odds are you have these, and if so I look forward to them.

I can't really say the Q&A answered any of my questions (well, except of how in the world did this idea come into play).

Anyway, sure it seems like a nice concept guys, and probably still is. However, how can I put this... It's just not funny. I am really sorry, I just need to be blunt with this.

Besides the un-funny jokes (which I hardly ever see any jokes, but maybe that's just me) the characters are just so shallow. I mean, I don't like any of them. I wouldn't mind putting those dogs to sleep personally.

But, maybe I'm wrong (and I hope I am) and maybe it just needs more time. Then again, I really loved that other new show (blast, what was it called dungeon something but you get my point) and that only had one episode and it had me laughing till tears.

Again, I personally, don't find this show funny. The "dog" jokes (Did you guys even make any of those yet?) the regular jokes and the characters just don't hold up.

I'll give the show another shot, but I don't have high hopes. I think the show should go the way of Lassie...

Hopefully this'll cut a lot of the bitching. As I implied in my comment on the last episode, I had one of those "ohhhh, right, I see" moments when it was explained earlier by the tag team of John Funk and the CEO. Frankly, having grown up in the 80s and early 90s, I'm a bit surprised (at myself) that it required an explanation before I could see where it was coming from. It's a lot better with that frame of reference. Of course, that'll mean nothing to a lot of people around here - I wonder just how much of the audience is of the age range that would be likely to get it?

That said, it's still not really my sort of humour so far - made me smile a few times, that's about all. But hey, that's instantly better than a couple of other series that'll remain nameless for the sake of tact. What I did get from it was a sort of warm nostalgic feeling and an urge to go and watch some old cartoons, so it's clearly doing its job in that respect which has gotta count for something.

I'm going with it 'cos I think there's a load of potential there, and it's far from bad as it is... also I'm at the sort of age now where any hint of nostalgia is very welcome.

So yeah, they're dogs because it's funny, ridiculous and so spontaneous! (LOL OMGS SO FUNNEH OVER 9000!!!111 SPARTA!!11 XD ect...ect...) It's just a gimmick, great.

Also, I swear to god, a year? A whole year? Are you people serious? Yahtzee makes his slideshows in like a week, and each slide is funnier, wittier, smarter, and generally more enjoyable than any video clip of Game Dogs.
Yahtzee uses stick figures that aren't animated.

There's a big difference.
And he's still funny. Imagine that.

That has nothing to do with what was being asked, which was discussing the difference in production time.

Alright I think I was too hasty with all my negative comments about the show. I watched the second episode and liked it alot more then I did the 'first' one. I'd like you to keep going so we can see how it pans out.

Honestly the reason they're dogs is this just wouldn't -work- with humans. The sort of oddball 'SatAM' logic that seems to apply in this universe would just look stupid coming from human actors, and human characters would lack the character of the show. Also, portraying them as dogs lets you summarize the characters personality visually, and then reinforce it with the dialogue in the show.

Yeah, you also have to keep in mind that it's not like any of us who were involved in the development of this show were only developing this one show over the course of the last 10 or so months. We're a pretty small crew at The Escapist, and everyone does a little bit of everything, so, yeah, when you're working on ten or twelve things simultaneously, like most of us usually are, it can take a little while to bring some of those things to fruition. I've certainly worked on projects that took less than a year to develop, but I've also worked on some that have taken far, far longer.

Anyway, I hope some people's questions about the series were answered. Alena did a great job with the interview. I'm also excited to show you the upcoming episodes and what we've learned and are still learning about making them. Hopefully you'll be as pleased as we are with the results.

I'm also glad to see the folks who have nothing better to do than show up and sour the conversation by saying "I still hate this show, LULZ" care enough to continue making the effort, but it's time to give it a rest with that bullshit. We have higher standards here. Constructive, meaningful criticism is always welcome, and we do indeed respond to it and sometimes learn from it. But trolling is not welcome. Never has been, never will be, so if you're feeling tempted, go somewhere else and do it.

(And before anyone attempts to rule monger me on who sets the definition of "meaningful criticism," the answer to that question is: At The Escapist, it's The Escapist. Which would mean - among other people - me.)
I love it when you put people in their place, Russ. That, and the avatar. It suits you.

So cool.

And yet those unanimated stick figures pack in more visual humour than Game Dogs could hope achieve with any number of it's jokes. But yeah, at least that's a decent reason for Yahtzees quick turn-around.

Well, at least I know why their dogs now.

It looks like you guys put a lot of effort into the show, I hope it does well.

After all, its only been two episodes.

My biggest question is when did so many people hate cartoons with anthropomorphic animals. I don't understand how anyone could hate the Loney Toons, Tom and Jerry, etc.
I don't know, perhaps its because they grew up with them and anything new is crap compared to them.

Which it is, since nothing will ever be as cool as Bugs Bunny.
