It seems the summer heat has evaporated all the good game releases and I find myself with a solid 30-40 quid budget and no interesting games to sink my teeth into. I have being sitting in my room replaying the same old things when clearly what I need is something new to pass the months away. Do the members of the escapist have any advice, I ask myself?

I have a number of games already, gta4, god of war 3, ass creed 2, infamous and prototype, boaderlands, fallout 3 (but not oblivion, which could be a good idea), overlord 2 (which is shite), lost planet 2, resident evil 5, spore, and... well I really cant be bothered to keep on listing the damn things but if you have any advice on what I might like then I would be much obliged. It doesn't have to be mainstream either, I appreciate a small price tag such as is found on indie games. in fact an indie game would be ideal, I love those things.

Any advice?

If you are in to a bit older games, I would say morrowind. That will keep you busy for a while and still is a great game.

Drought?

I'm swimming in games from the first half of the year. Pick up what you missed.

2010 is gaming's best year in ages.

Also, get Oblivion, or I'll punch you through the internet. Game of the Year edition has the two biggest DLCs, but I highly recommend Wizard's Tower.

Starcraft II has had a similar effect to Modern Warfare 2, in that other games are scared shitless of releasing anytime near them both. At least, that's my guess.

Meh, I think it is more of the fact that many companies want to hold out until fall so that they can get into the holiday gift lists. Summer has traditionally been a time of slower game releases I do believe.

However, If you have a PC, pick up SC2 right now. Loving it.

Wow. I didn't manage to get more than five hours into the bloody thing. I enjoyed the Lost game more than that!

I assume you've already played Dragon Age. Shame, that's a good way to play away a lot of hours. Do you have a PC, or just a PS3? The Mass Effect games are both brilliant, and will keep you busy for a while, but AFAIK they are unavailable on PS3.

Why do so few people recognise this? Silly, silly people.

I always thought about oblivion, but I ended up wondering whether I might find it lacking in comparison to Fallout 3, especially since I find the capitol wasteland to be far more compelling than most generic fantasy settings I have seen. Your thoughts?

Peruse Good Old Games and see what they've got in their catalogue that you'll like. Basially they're classic games for cheap.

As far as Indie is concerned... I haven't seen many that caught my eye... I hear good things about Eschalon [http://basiliskgames.com/], though.

If you like RTS games, check out Soldiers: Heroes of World War II. I'm disappointed I didn't come across it earlier.
