Game enhancing options...

In a sentence, is there an option you want to see implemented in a game? Let me explain...

I recently had a rant on a different topic about current games lacking options in their game-types. By that for example, I mean, I (and a few others I know) would love if Left 4 Dead had a singleplayer/co-op mode where there was no special infected, and a greatly increased number of regular zombies (more akin to a zombie movie).

But it doesn't have to be that specific. Mainstream strategy games've sorta done the same thing. Remember how many game-modes Age of Empires 2 had? Compare it to the modern C&C3, and you'll find the latter fairly bland and samey. The folks from Sierra had a pretty good go with World in Conflict, with a reasonable variety of matches, standard map brawl, tug-o-war frontline mode, assault/defend. That's what I like to see.

So anyway, is there a feature you'd like to see implemented into a certain game, like my example with Left 4 Dead? Or just more game types overall in your favourite FPS/RTS?

Cheers furbs, for being the only person to realise this thread exists... And here I was thinking I'd gotten a good topic =(

And yeah, mods are nice, and the enormously varied mods for Counter Strike has helped keep it alive forever and a day. But I think it'd be swell if developers put in a little extra effort themselves.

I've said this before, but it can go here too. I think there are more than a few games that would benefit from an instant replay type feature. Like God of War. I never really get to see those scenes because I am trying to hit the sequence of buttons.

And I'd like it if all games moved to the save anywhere feature. Save points should be a thing of the past now. I like to be able to stop playing whenever. It's frustrating to have to seek out a save point when it's getting late and I want to go to bed.

I want to see a shooter were you have multiple characters to choose from, and the character you choose decides the missions and story. There would be one main campaign, which had the primary story and all the important bits, but than side characters would fill in the cracks.

But this is just part of my 'I wish games lasted longer than 6 hours' wish, so I know it will never happen. Man, and I have a story, characters, and everything planned out...

A harder difficulty mode in Devil May Cry 4.

Stop having a heart attack. I was just kidding.

I'd love to see the ability to use all the vehicles you see to be added to all the Source engine games. It would really shake up the multiplayer in HL2 and Counter Strike as well.

How about extreme challenges in Fallout 3 (like a fight with 30 super mutants at once) that enable you to get Bobbleheads which award the different Perks that you missed while levelling to the max? With challenges suited to the Perk you'll get. And if you have the Perk you're trying for, you get a sizable money or item reward, your choice. Yes, it would make you into a godlike character if you beat 'em all, but as far as I'm concerned, that would be worth it, and in any case being godlike in a sandbox can be epic fun.

this. sometimes the voices are ridiculously quiet or they speak fast and your like "waahh...?" and so you crank up the sound then it ends cutscene and :SLDKJFS:LDKFJSDLFKJS:LDFKJSD:FLKJSD:FKS you nearly bleed from the ear on the other sounds, its just a billion times easier to allow subtitles, as i can read faster then they can talk so it helps alot more

holy crap i was just thinking this earlier, i wanted to watch the zeus part for sure but i was too busy doing the sequences to pay attention to the stuff going on, i wish they would rehash it later for unlockables where you could go back and watch them in full or something

OT:

i wish they would make a mod for crackdown or protype kind of based on the movie "the one" (yes i just watched it), where you'd obviously be on the run going into different dimensions (think crash bandicoot here) and you'd chase down all your alternate dimensions of yourselves for some sweet ass boss battles of killing yourself technically (then you would gain a new power or abilitiy such as in crackdown/prototype each time you killed a boss)

Here is quick config mod I made for L4D. It makes a crapload more zombies, and no specials. I haven't tested it yet, but it should work fine. Just take the code in the spoiler tag, copy it into a text file, and save it with a ".cfg" extension, name it something you'll remember.

//Left 4 Dead Reborn mod settings

sv_cheats 1

//infected stuff
z_background_limit "100" //upped the amount of calm zombies allowed in-game
z_mob_spawn_max_size "50" //upped the amount of zombies spawned in fights
z_mob_spawn_min_size "40" //upped the min amount of zombies spawned in fights
z_mega_mob_size "75" //upped the amount of zombies spawned in mobs
z_skirmish_spawn_max_size 20 //upped the amount of zombies spawned in skirmishes
director_no_specials 1 // no special zombies

Drop the file in your "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\cfg" directory. Start up L4D, bring up the console with the tilde button, and type in "Exec YOURFILENAME.cfg". You'll have to do this every time you start up the game, and want to use the mod. It'll work in single-player or any servers you host.

Enjoy :D

How about split screen co-op for fucks sake. It seems like every game removed the ability to play with a friend in the room whether it was online or offline.

And NO, not all my friends like to play Halo, LittleBigPlanet, or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. WTF, developers. -.-

I wholeheartedly agree with this. In this new age of gaming everything and I mean everything is online but its hard as hell to find something to play with a friend, in my house. Sometimes they do add it but its a take turn affair and you might have to pay for it a la Burnout Paradise. You would think with HD Tvs being cheap and having wider real estate than the CRTs of yore, split screen would be used more. Sigh

Every shooter should have multiplayer bot match. It used to be everywhere and I loved it, but now online multiplayer has gotten rid of it almost entirely.

This. Also it annoys me in first person shooters (or other first person view points in games) when you look down and you cannot see your legs or any part of your body other than your arms. I'm not sure why, but how can you be in a first person view if you can't look down and at least see your legs?

I'd like a cinematics section for games

i dont like having to play the game again to see an awesome video, or having to make a save before every such video...

I just wanna throw out AI that learns from watching players, whether it's in an RTS or FPS or whatever. I'm fed up of mainstream, big budget games with no or just token gestures made to the computer's intelligence. Its shameful when you think about the processing power available to the machines we play on these days that we've only evolved AI from 'walk towards player shooting' to 'crouch behind wall or walk towards player shooting' over the course of gaming history. Yeah, I know there's exceptions (Crysis, for example), but they are pretty limited and flawed in implementation often.

I want to see AI that learns how you play and learns to counter it, perhaps with personality biases informed by the character's bias. Take CnC Generals' 'Generals Challenges' - if you're fighting a general who's speciality is nukes, but you keep air-striking his silos, rather than mindlessly sending the same group of tanks and artillery down the same three routes into your artillery kill zones, perhaps he actively calculates a weakness in your defences and airstrikes your airfields. Of how about in Half Life, if in previous play-throughs of a particular section you keep sniping the guys ahead from a window, the next time you get there they expect to see you at the window and put down covering fire whilst one throws in grenades.

Gah, there's so much that could be done to make more interesting enemies to play against, particularly at making realistic player-imitating bots. Less of this bullshit damage-changing difficulty, bring on the skill and learning-based difficulty.

Seems like this is a crowd favourite, and I agree wholeheartedly. I have a brother who is awesome to play games with, and SO many shooters that could benefit from a LAN co-op. Crysis and Far Cry 2 could be epic co-op, but sadly dev's don't devote their time projects that aren't for the masses.

Most SNK fighting games should have the choice of 2vs2 or 3vs3 or even 1vs1 with a helper for each person (they jump in, do an attack, and leave) so people can play how they want.

As said before split screen co-op. Also I would like to see alot more unit types in RTSs as well as alot more weapon customisation in FPSs. And not just adding a grenade launcher and things like that but changing specific parts and such also armour customisation like in rainbow six vegas.
