Haven't seen one of these so bam! Here we go!

So do you find yourself drawn to certain genres of games? And why?

For me its platformers. I grew up with a SNES with the Super Mario All Stars Collection. So I haven't had that platforming itch scratched much as of late. Sure there was Rayman Origins, which is amazing, but thats all thats taken me back to those old super mario days. Its also one of the many, many reasons I love Psychonauts. The platforming can be pretty bad at times, but over all its just worth it =D The Assassin's Creed series' park-our elements are the best part of those games.

So what about you? Are you a adventure game guy? A RTS gal?

Sound off below!

I find myself drawn to Visual Novel type games, even when there's only a 'lil' bit of novel in there. Basically if there's one character on one side of the screen probably with another character on the other side of the screen with a text box in the middle then i'll like it.

I can't even explain why I like them to be honest. I can't think of a single reason other than that the story is probably going to be above par most of the time.

I prefer third-person to first person in shooter/action games and I like anything that has some sort of flow to it. It's why I thought Mirror's Edge was fucking amazing. Sequel nao pls. Just don't fuck it up by throwing guns at it EA! Kthx!

Thinking about it it's why I like certain APs over others in LoL. Eh Nidalee has bullshit damage potential and all but what she's got like one proper damage ability in human form? The trap doesn't count y'know. Nahhhhh give me someone like Diana any day.

Q,R,W,E (E only if he pisses himself and tries to run, otherwise leave it) Q,R,Q,R repeat ad nausem until one of you dies.

ADs are almost always going to be autoattack focused so they're pretty much flowless in comparison. 'Cept Riven but she has a 3 hit combo bound to one button so she's cheating!

I really like mystery so if a game has mystery elements and they're well thought out and executed correctly i'll love it if the gameplay is at least functional. Hmmm, guess which game has amazing gameplay and the single most bestest mystery story ever? That's right kids! Persona 4 strikes again!

The progeny of Super Metroid and Castlevania Symphony of the Night mostly.

Dungeon Crawlers like Etrian Odyssey and Vagrant Story.

Action RPGS like Alundra, Soul Blazer, Zelda, 3D Dot Game Heros, and Steambot Chronicles.

Older Horror games like Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, and Siren.

Tenchu games not on the Wii or DS

Non modern shooters like Doom 64, Borderlands, Turok 2. Basically I would rather be blasting my way through hordes of monsters and avoiding traps/collecting loot than shooting another random Nazi etc.

the exception being Team Fortress 2, back when I still played it on PS3 I could shoot scouts in the back with my Pyro's shotty all day every day. When people see a pyro they think, "I just need to keep my distance." They usually don't think you will be a shotgun surgeon.

I find myself drawn to FPS, Strategy, and all manner of RPGs the most, however, I'm fine with most genres of games. Exceptions being hardcore sims like Railworks.

Simulation shooters. Games like ARMA, older Flashpoint games, the Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2 and to an extent, Rainbow Six + Ghost Recon. I just wish the market was a lot bigger. And my PC could run the newer ARMA games.

Strategy and RPG tend to be my favourites, those few games which combine both those elements into one tend to be the ones I enjoy most. I love a game that challenges me to think on both a tactical level as well as on a story-driven emotional one, pity there are so few of those nowadays.

Survival horror. When I say that I don't mean the Dead Space/New age Resident Evil stuff. What I mean are Fatal Frame, Amnesia, Silent Hill, Clock Tower 3... I can't get enough of them.

I do love a good RTS, even though they are probably what I am worst at, against other people that is anyway. It's just a pain that they don't work well on consoles and that I'd have to update my laptop if I wanted to play some of the later ones. But I get by fine playing older ones.

Whatever the hell Yume Nikki is, I love it.

I also have a thing for financial simulators, stealth and adventure games.

I find myself drawn to RPGs, adventure games, shooters, and action/adventure games. Can't get enough of 'em, man. This was probably because the first game I ever saw or remember was Myst, a first-person, atmospheric point n' click adventure game with a strong story. :p

EDIT: Also, sometimes RTSs. It really does depend greatly on the game, but I love me a good RTS when I find one. :p

I vote we turn Berserk into a JRPG. Or, just throw Caim of Drakengard in as a main character for the next final fantasy game...either one of these i would find to be acceptable.

Action Adventure, Action RPG, JRPG, Platformers, Stealth.

I detest RTS games. Cannot play those games even were my life depending on it.

Any kind of open world game. I love large scale anything, and also like having options. Even if I don't use all the choices given to me, I like knowing that they are there and makes the world feel more real or organic as the game devs like to put it. Even a game like Dark Souls or Deus Ex count in that category.

The games industry could decide tomorrow that it's going to start pumping out nothing but CRPGs, and I would be so absurdly happy.

I mean, they can pretty much do anything really, and the freedom, and replay-ability! SPLOOOSH!

Also one quick note: I love the fiction genre of Cyber Punk. I really feel like someone needs to turn Snow Crash into a video game already! It's full of sequences that would play out amazingly, and has a lot of concepts that could be displayed beautifully through modern graphics. Again: SPLOOOOSH!

One final thing: I have a terrible addiction to playing Survival Horror games.

Oh I have many genres I love.
First of all RPG I love making a character (more so then playing it).
Then we have all the strategy genres, I can't spperate them because I love them all as much, I love building empires and using politics to win fights.
After that comes Horror and adventure games I like being scared. So the best game ever would be a RPG with a decent building simulator, and add some horror.
