This sucks, I feel for everyone who's now queueing up at the Job Centre waiting to get some dole through no fault of their own. I've been there and it's fucking horrible, especially when you have things to pay for like rent, bills and a car.
Well, the one in Southampton (uni town) was always empty whenever I went there and didn't have any PC games in stock, however the one in Ipswich (home town) was always too crowded to get into, but mostly because it was about the size of a small cupboard and had a small selection of PC games that were often much cheaper than anywhere else (including steam. For example skyrim @ £23).
I think most of GAME's customers left them years ago when CEX opened selling second hand games at dirt cheap prices. It's where I've bought all my gamecube/ps2 games.
I'm sad that they are closing because I know that in Ipswich at least, it just means another empty store on a dying high street that will probably become just another Christmas crap shop for one month of the year.

Not sure if I can more accurately sum up my thoughts that with that above sentence. Both Game and Gamestation are closing which means, I'll have to get games from either Play.com, HMV or Blockbusters. Those two stores have been in this town for as long as I can remember, probably before I was born and I'm 21.. Well maybe not that long but they've both been there a long while... That and this town is already suffering in the job department, with Game and Gamestation going down, they take down even more job opportunities.

As much as it sucks that so many people are out of work (been there, not fun), I still can't find any sympathy for the company itself. Once I discovered Steam and Amazon, it was rare I ever went in there. I used to prefer going in-store for the 'personal touch', but every time I went in, I was quickly reminded why I shouldn't.

GAME reaped what they sowed.
Seriously this is just terrible all around. GAME has been throwing their weight around and bullying other distributors and pulled a monopoly on the market, all while pretty much forcing used games down the consumers throats, and now there is a chance that it will just dissapear, with thousands of jobs gone, other companies that relied on GAME now in jeporady etc..
This just plain sucks. On one hand I am glad that GAME is gone, but this is just a mess for the games retail industry. I don't really think the anyone was ready for this. But I am really hoping this can get pulled together and maybe we can get more retailers and some competition going.
I am not really sad that GAME is gone, but the side effects are disconcerting. It won't really affect me directly since I pretty much get all my games digitally or via amazon/ebay, but I guess we will see what happens next in regards to what will happen to games retail.

The Game in my towns shut but the Gamestation is still open (going off what my friend said the other day), i do feel sorry for those who have been made unemployed but i don't feel sad for game they have always been overpriced (hell they were still selling modern warfare 1, yes 1 for well over £20 used) and they ruined Gamestation when they bought them. Gamestation went from beating Game everytime on price to just charging the same and having similar deals, and this is why i buy off Steam, Amazon and Shopto.net.
I never really saw how Game survived if i'm honest, half their staff obviously weren't gamers, their uniform was way too formal, Gamestation staff and uniform was alot better (at least in my town, friendly people actually knew what you meant when you were talking about a certain game).

All the Game stores in my hometown, my new town and where I work have all closed down - so I have no access to the store, and I'll be damned if I'm going to use their overpriced website to help save them when I can get things for cheaper delivered faster and for free. I know they've closed a lot of stores and I feel sorry for the people who have lost their jobs but some of the closures are a bit strange. Closing the ones in the city centre where I work, but keeping the one in the far outskirts where people would rarely venture seems a bit of an oddity.
Wonder how long they'll last now.
