Game Idea: Transformers

The idea came to me when I was watching the old episodes of Transformers G1 on Youtube (can't find season 2 on DVD yet).

Anyway, what if they (anyone) made a Transformers FPS game? The catch is, the game takes whole new levels of play when the Autobots and Decepticons Transform. Example, when the autobots transform, they become cars. So the game would take on a racing game persona during that time. Decepticons (the jets for example) would play like flight sims. There is a variety of different transformations that offer different levels of play which could prove to be interesting. Hell, Soundwave could pull off a pseudo-stealth game with his cassette bots Ravange, Rumble, Laserbeak, etc.

EDIT: I know there are currently Transformer games out now (based on the movies) but I've not played them yet. So if they are like this, then I guess this post was a waste. If not, then maybe I'm onto something. Consider this an idea for a good Transformers game. ^_^

I dunno. I guess I should stop watching the series and do something more productive, but I just thought this was an interesting idea. What do you think and what kind of styles would characters like the Dinobots and Insecticons be?

I think a third person action game would be better.
That way, ranged weapons are still usable and melee attacks are more God of War-like and not Daikatana-like.

I'm keeping my hopes up for War for Cybertron. Seems to be everything I've ever wanted from a TF game.

I swear they made a game like this. Really I swear I think I saw it on xplay. Were you could transform at will it's was 3rd person through...

I'll have to check this out. The screenshots look interesting. I'll have to get the PC version though.

I don't know much about the movie based games other than I hear they aren't received too well.

Now how could they possibly implement all that seamlessly into the game.

I honestly don't think it'd be that hard. Most racing games can change from various perspectives of first, third, and distant third as it is. All you really need is just different control schemes for the transformed versions of the characters. Once in human-shaped mode, they all play fairly similarly (with some exceptions of course). Most of them function as vehicles and most vehicle driving games feel fairly similar as it is. Only big difference between jets and trucks is that the former have guns on them and the latter does not.

I think putting all that into a game would make it cluster-fucky. Like Alone in the Dark.
