I'm not a game developer but I just had the thought of a game like equilibrium
Not the story of it but with gun kata (I think it's called) it would be hard to do but it would be cool. What about your thoughts on this??

Needs padding :D

I've not watched the film so shouldn't really comment on how it would work as a concept, but there may already be something out there that fits the bill... not many unique concepts left for game devs to do.

I've never seen Equilibrium, but gun kata? Do you mean Gun Katana, as in a gun that is also a blade? If so, I'm afraid Final Fantasy VIII already beat you to it. Keep trying, though.

Ideas are fickle things that fly away easily, and when they are gone they're gone forever. What you need to do is get some sort of book or journal for ideas. Every time you get one, write it down wherever you can. Some paper you have on you, your hand, or even a note on your phone or something (and if your phone doesn't have a notepad feature, just write out a text and save it as a draft).

Then whenever you get back to your book, write them in there. Trust me--I'm an art student, and my idea book has paid off numerous times.

Well I've seen a couple of Max Payne 2 mods with gunkata. It's cool but hardly ever really works.

If someone could code a system that makes you take down your targets with gun-kata as a special ability.

Or two gun-shaped controllers, so that you can walk and shoot with the controller, and aim by actually aiming the guns. Would be a lot more fun, but you'd have to buy two controllers and the game.

Bayonette would be a decent comparison for Gun Kata.

I would also say Dante would also be a decent comparison.

Gun Kata is a fictional martial art from the movie, its basically is the ability to predict where a enemy will move during a gun fight, and to aim and fire accordingly. Its fancy, but really impracticle, as it operates under the idea that gunfights have everyone standing in the open, just waiting to be shot. The enemies in the movie are basically stormtroopers, only there to be killed by the dozens. Cover is something that is completely forgien to these people (the people in the movie's world).

Nope, he does mean 'Gun Kata', which is like a martial art infused with guns. Basically, it's all about your position in a gun fight relative to those of your opponents, and then applying practiced stances, with the gun(s) pointing in certain directions, to ensure a very high chance of a hit, due to you being able to predict the trajectory of your bullet.

OT: It'd have to be carefully combined with the gameplay somehow, in order to remain true to what the idea is. If it was unwieldy in the slightest, the whole system would fall apart. They'd have to take a lot of headers from fighting games, I think, to make it work properly.

Oh, this helps a lot. It works in movies, why not in games? Would be a ***** to master though. Guess I do a bit of Gun Kata on the Heavy Metal map for BC2, ultra long range head shots on a moving target on the hills... "haxx!"
