I saw a post a little bit ago about how Zelda games are all essentially the same. Gameplay doesn't change too much from game to game and the story follows a similar trend too (Zelda is in a pickle and Fagballs has to unpickle her - Yahzee). I, for one, completely agree with the idea that Zelda games could use a bit of reworking to make them interesting. Hell. A lot of games do. So... here are some of my ideas. Tell me what you think:

Legend of Zelda:
- We always play as Link trying to save the day. But you always notice how Zelda sneaks off and does her own thing for a bit. In Twilight Princess she was... well... the Twilight Princess and giving Midna orders and shit. In Ocarina she takes the guise of Sheik. In Wind Waker, she's a pirate. Why not let the title character, ZELDA, actually take center stage for a change? We could even do it similar to dual world gameplay, but not need the dual-world gimmick of seeing all the rooms twice with different lighting and colors.
- Simply put, Zelda gameplay would be heavy use on magic and spells. It'd be RPG style and maybe have a skill-tree or some other method of determining what her spells are. The other gameplay style you have is heavy focus on stealth missions as Sheik. You go around. Killing bad-guys Arkham Asylum style while fulfilling out various missions. You could have the final boss be someone new or one of the minor villains like Zant or Vatti. Obviously she isn't going to fight Ganondorf. That's Links thing. It'd be like sending Batgirl to take on Joker when Batman is readily available.

Super Mario... I mean Super Bowser:
- As the title implies. You play as Bowser instead of Mario. The mission is to kidnap Peach, escape to Koopa Kingdom, and defend her from her rescuers. Obviously, Nintendo would never do this because they'd never let you have fun playing as the villain. So what wacky ideas could this game implement?
- Mario gameplay was all about jumping on people and platforming. What if Bowser's is simply breaking down enemies and going through obstacles? It doesn't sound like anything revolutionary, but trust me, I'm getting to it. Bowser also has the ability to call on a selection of magic powers (as he can do in a variety of the games) as well as summon his minions to fight on his behalf. There would be some minor platforming elements to it because it's a Mario game, technically.
- The cool part would be the escape mission. You take an alternate route back to Koopa Kingdom, not the one you took to get there. You do different obstacles, enemies, etc. Pretty obvious. But the fun part is all the minions you summon and damage you did to the world map will affect how well Mario and Luigi get to you. That's right. As Bowser, you're not just getting to Peach. you're creating the crap the brothers have to venture through just to get to you. So if you plan things right, it can be a pretty interesting concept. Plus, if they make it, whatever damage they took prior to meeting you is still on them. So while your diabolical stage may not always kill them, it may soften them up for you when it's time to fight.

Pokemon
- Make into an MMO... I think I mentioned this idea in an older post of mine so I won't go into more detail. But an MMO of Pokemon would be an excellent idea to improve the series further.

StarFox / F-Zero / Metroid
- The more I think about Nintendo franchises, the more I think about Marvel Studios. I know the connection is nonexistent but I've always wondered why certain Nintendo franchises don't ever meet outside the SSB universe. I mean, there are homages of StarFox in the F-Zero games (James McCloud). They're all flying around in space where just about anything can happen in Sci-Fi. So why not reboot StarFox and F-Zero (since they've been out of commission for so long) by doing a crossover game for each series. Maybe Falco gets stranded on a planet where the F-Zero Grand Prix is taking place and he needs to enter to rebuild his ship because he can't contact the team. Maybe the rest of the team chases StarWolf onto a Space Pirate Homeworld where they run into Ridley and friends who start causing Fox and company problems. I mean, the opportunity is right there and it would certainly be interesting to see all these characters interacting in something other than a fighting game.

I dunno, these are just a few ideas I had. What are some of yours?

I've had this idea for an original game in my head for a while:

You are a friend/trusted adviser of the monarch of a large neutral kingdom. One night the castle comes under siege and the king entrusts you with some highly powerful magical artifact (I know, sounds unoriginal at this point) and you have to keep this artifact safe while the king goes off to go get some allies to kick some ass.

what would make this original is that how you protect this artifact is up to you. Do you build a gigantic doom fortress and deal with sieges by armies who want your magical Mcguffin? Or do you maybe try to lay low in various towns, posing a farmhand or commoner? Or do you maybe just hire some bodyguards and wait it out in a house you bought in the mountains? It's pretty much up to you.

Another idea would be that if the artifact gets stolen, it's not an immediate game over. Depending on how it was taken, you would have a certain amount of time to get it back, which would also allow for different methods of re-acquiring the artifact. Say your doom fortress gets sacked, and you can't afford to raise a new army to go take back the Mcguffin from Lord whomeverthefuck's castle, you have the option to collect a bunch of thieves and plan some medieval-fantasy style Ocean's Eleven heist to get it back. Or maybe someone picks your pocket in town, then you can possibly go Batman on criminals until you get some leads on who has your Mcguffin now.

Then by the time the King gets back with some budies, you can help him out with getting his kingdom back based on skills you learned. Do you go offer to lead the army as a general? Maybe sneaking about in the shadows is more your thing, then you can plan ambushes on enemy supply routes, spy on enemies to learn their plans and weaknesses, or assassinate enemy generals.

Basically the main idea of the game would be to make it so that there's almost no wrong way to play it, you can approach your goals however you want to, with there being no absolute right-way and wrong-way to do it.

a game idea I pretty much just had; I know it doesn't sound like much of a game, but it's just an idea for now -- the idea is still a little vauge, so bear with me please.

the idea is to create a completly non verbal, or rather, a new means of communication outside of any language using a system of pictographs, colours and shared inherent meanings - ya know, global cultural signifiers. in the game world there would be created links between symbols and meaning, I mean, instead of getting your cultural signifiers from the real world, this would be like a substituted reality giving context to the language.

I see it like a big game world that the players are immersed in, which could work in a varity of game types I guess, and it would create a kind of common tounge, a simplified form of communication. The end state of this is, I would think, to be able to create any game using this 'game language' and for anyone, regardless of what the speak irl, being able to communicate in the game world.

I guess there ain't much of a game idea in there right now, eh?
