(Please no "Taiwanese chef"s, "Bosom-race of bosom people", or anything from ZP's Tomb Raider video please - they were funny enough until people elsewhere ruined 'em like they did Rick Roll and >9000)
I have a random idea for a Survival-Horror game. The game itself is set inside an isolated town in Wyoming during late winter, rather suburban, and quite a bit of farms and Ranches. Of course the story involves something (Whether it be an alien or something supernatural I haven't yet decided since either can work, the question is what makes more sense) that is sending out some kind of radio signal. This signal causes the people to hear it to start hallucinating, and of course since they're already afraid of what the heck is going on they start to hallucinate something as cliche as their worst fears.
Except that these are only manifesting depending on whether or not you stay within a room for too long. If you enter a room to solve a puzzle and there's a radio on, if you don't take out the Radio quick enough your character begins to Hallucinate. When they start to panic they don't think clearly so thus they are rather hard to control and their view on things begins to distort.
Now the stuff that everyone experiences isn't stuff like say, random zombies/shibito coming from the grave to kill them or a horror movie monster like Michael Meyers or Scissorman... okay MAYBE like Scissorman. I'm thinking more stuff that makes you think they're on Acid...like say something more akin to Pan's Labyrinth or Alice in Wonderland. Or better yet...Pink Elephants on Parade. Who remembers how disturbing THAT part of the movie was? I'm sure you do.
You have multiple player characters. They all start off at different areas and you can branch out depending on when they meet each other. They of course do not have cookie-cutter strengths and weaknesses like say one dude runs faster or this guy can jump higher, it mostly depends on what they will hallucinate. One person has arachnophobia so he'd start to see spiders that gradually get bigger or start to crawl over him, one person has pyrophobia so they'll start seeing little candle flames and eventually they start to consume the room or light their clothes on fire. And one person is afraid of drowning and eventually the room floods etc you get what I'm talking about.
And of course you will experience similar parts of the levels but rather than being repeated you're exploring a different section of the level and experience different things. This also will include puzzles. I have also thought of maybe having a few shock scenes where you're working on a puzzle then all of a sudden you get a scream while you're shown a picture of birds and flowers. Or the reverse. I also thought of one sequence where your character's on the road and if you look down you can see there's some reflections on the ice. Eventually they start to get brighter and they hear a truck coming. Then you jump out of the way only to find nothing. Your mind was just playing tricks on you. When you're afraid, you don't think clearly at all.
Now post your game ideas.
