i'm thinkin of learning a game making language. i was wondering what language would be easy to start with. as for experience i've done a fair bit with game maker. so if someone could point me at something that is easy to understand and has some guides to get started it would be much appreciated.

I use pygame, a set of modules for python.
It's good because it's python, which is easy to code.
It's bad because you have to hardcode graphics into the game.
For tutorials, there are some on the website (Look under resources.)
Python can be found here.
Good luck :)

I'll list a few options that I think might be good:

1) Visual Basic is a good language to start with, especially since it does a lot of menial tasks (like creating a window) for you, whereas that would take a few hundred lines of code in most other languages. Also, you avoid some of the sloppy coding habits that normal BASIC teaches you.

2) Try making a mod for Minecraft. Minecraft uses Java, and while jumping into all that code headfirst will be intimidating at first, it'll teach you a lot about how object oriented programming languages work.

Personally, I'd recommend you sign up for some comp sci classes at your high school (or wherever you are in life). Even though I never took the time to get proficient at programming, I understand about 1000 times more than the average Joe, and my knowledge of HTML and also C++ has come in handy from time to time.

One last tip: start small. Building a game from the ground up is a lot harder than making one with Game Maker. Try to start with a Tetris-like game, or some other simple game, before you move on to bigger and better things.

I'm not too sure about that, VBA is a pretty terrible language. Would agree with the rest of what you said though.

First off, what sort of game? If we're talking high-end, high-performance, you're going to want to learn C/C++. If just in browser, then you could do it with flash quite easily. Middle of the road, maybe Python?

Also, the more high-performance your game, the harder it is to make.
