Call of Duty, definitely.

"Kid just shot a guy. He did it again. He raised his gun and another guy fell down. Kid didn't care. He just kept shootin' guys"

Bioshock, particularly when it comes to your arrangement of plasmids. Only thing is, it would get in the way of being asked if you would kindly continue down this linear path that you think is more open than most alleys in City 17.

Narration's tricky. Books often have first person narrators, but I can't think of a game that lets you inside the protagonist's head to that degree.

I wouldn't mind seeing a game that investigates just how having the weight of the world/your country/your loved ones on your shoulders for your next-to-impossible quest would affect the psyche (shown through first person narration).

Don't misunderstand...it'd have been cool if they actually got Ron Perlman. The real one.

But they didn't. Instead they got some guy who tried to sound like him. Which is lame.

None. IF everyone started doing it, people would get sick of this style of narration, it would quickly become stale and eventually annoying. This way, Bastion will remain cool and unique.

In my opinion "A Bards Tale" (2004) has a very pleasant "constant" narration. Sorry guys, it's way before Bastion and I think it is even better. Simply because the narrator makes fun of the protagonist and the protagonist just bitches back. It was (no it still is) hillarious.

But indulge me and see for yourself:

"The bard was so unlucky, black cats considered it an ill omen if he crossed their paths"
Enjoy
Warning Spoilers:

Skip the first 20 Seconds:
Narrator: "All hail The Bard, rat killer and rodent bane! He who has made the cellars once again safe for buxom bar maids and-"
Bard: "How about you tell the story, and leave all the patronizing comments to me?!"
Narrator: "Oh fine, have it your way..."

Oddly enough, that narration was the one thing I hated about Bastion. The narrator was terrible at knowing my motivation, he didn't really add any personality to the character I was playing (or any of the others...except Zulf, he was pretty well-characterized), I didn't trust him at all (more-or-less correctly), and in general it just wreaked havoc on my immersion, by distracting me and reminding me that what I was doing already happened.

I know one of the things people constantly praise about that game is how it blended story and gameplay; when I was in it, it felt like I was playing the game while someone was reading a book at me over my shoulder. The only times Rucks became tolerable were during the cutscenes (when he stopped being a distraction), in the Bastion itself (when the general world-building exposition wasn't out-of-place), during the acid trip in the swamp (when the narration became kind of nightmarish), and during the final level (when his narration was finally concurrent to the gameplay, rather than in retrospect...and he stops knowing what's going on).

I'll be honest, that's kind of what I was hoping for in Bastion.

Though it also didn't help that the Kid is never really characterized, so I couldn't connect him with Rucks.

Yes, the best narrator could not help if the protagonist characterisation is shallow.

Interaction or dialogue between the protagonist and the narrator really helps the experience.

It should never be attempted in any sort of game that tries to be realistic.
As film makers found out long ago narration is like an uncanny valley black hole, you even come close to it you are done for.

But it would work exceptionally well in all sorts of cartoony games.
