Female readers want male on male sex scenes - this isn't news, that's like saying the sky is blue! I'm pretty sure about 80% of fanfics is m/m slash of various degrees of explicit
I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't picked up on this yet, why do they think the Mavel universe is as popular as it is. That shizz is like a pick'a'mix of male slash possibilities, granted we straight dudes and lesbians have Black Widow, Hill and now Gamora to look at but there's a reason tumblr's filled with Marvel gifs and it's not the epic stories/acting/cinematography.
I know! The whole thing is like being surprised that men want to see lesbian sex. I think the major reason can be found in youtube comments. Straight Young Male: "Why would girls want to see two guys get it on, men aren't sexy, only women are!" derp

It's interesting though, when I went to see Guardians, I don't recall seeing the topless scene of Gamora they were showing in the ads. Only Peter's/Star Lord. I think they took that out but left in a topless, dripping wet dude. Amazing.
There is kind of a distinct difference though. From a male perspective the appeal is to see two (or more) girls just having sex, with little regard to who they are or what there story is. From the female perspective it's not just about boy on boy sex, but all the romance and characterization that goes with it. With the fanfiction example that's why you have endless quantities of it that make say Harry and Draco gay for each other, yet practically nothing that would hook up Hermione and Ginny or whoever. Now I don't know how the female mind works but this is just basing on what's out there.

Frankly, it's a little hard for me to believe Martin has been including all these sex scenes solely for the purpose of furthering the story until now. He goes into way more explicit detail than is necessary, and with a few exceptions, the sex scenes rarely lead up to anything important.

That being said, all the sex scenes are the main thing that puts me off ASOIAF, it doesn't help that so many of them are incestuous or pedophilic in nature, and many border on rape if they aren't just flat out rape. I sure hope those weren't meant to tantalize.

Also: 3000[sup]th[/sup] post!!!

I'd rather see more believable same-sex relationships that aren't on the sidelines and don't get thrown under the bus before anything is done about adding sex scenes. As far as I know, Renly and Loras was the closest to that in the series, but I still think it played too much on expected stereotypes with both of them being kind of effeminate outside of them being knights and their relationship was never really touched on in the books than in the movies which was nowhere near as detailed as it was for heterosexual scenes, but that's just me being critical.

I remember thinking that too, but I bet that had to do with the idea that a topless dude is nothing risque while a topless women is 'AH, HIDE THE KIDS!'

Oh well, always rule 34.

Well I can't speak for every woman, but I do get off on watching gay porn. But when I READ racy content then yeah, a romantic connection is important for it to appeal

I do get letters from fans that want me to present an explicit male sex scene. Most of these letters come from women. I don't pretend to understand this, I merely read my emails. I'm not going to shy away from doing it if it has to happen, but I don't think you can just insert things because everyone wants to see them.
Pffffffff hahahahahaha, oh that's good, alrighty then.
Scathing sarcasm aside, I understand why people want to see some of the mutual dickings. We've had so many fucking boring sex scenes in the books that go on and on about how great tits are and basically all of them devolve into "one character shouts the other ones name and says 'fuck me' a lot" so I'd be curious to see how GRRM approaches gay males, even if it is just hilariously bad.

If you are gonna have lesbian scenes, you might as well put in gay male scenes too just to make it fair. Either have both or not at all, because exclusionary would give the impression of certain things to readers and the press.
