I just saw brief flashes of...stuff, not nearly enough information for me to judge the game. I really don't give two shits about graphics at this point. It's been far too long that I've played a decent medieval-fantasy RTS. After AoE II, nothing came close, even though LoTR:BFMII put up a good challenge. If this game has solid and deep game mechanics, I'm happy. I'm a fan of a Song of Ice and Fire, but I'm not a fanboy. I don't care if the names and places match up to my imagination.

I just want to sack some castles and route my enemies on the field. That's all I want.

Generic RTS with dragons...

...hold on. My brain froze...

...yup that's what it looks like. Skip. Delete from memory. This never happened.

"Underwhelms" is an understatement. This trailer destroyed any hope i have that this game will deliver. I love both the books and the HBO series, and while the consepts i read about this game made me quite interested (alliences, backstabbing, playing politics ect) this looks so generic and boring there has to be a insane disconnect between this trailer and the game itself for me to get exited about this again.

You've played Medieval II then? That was (subjectively) excellent.

OT: Sad. Just kind of sad. And I still don't understand the decision to grant Cyanide, of all developers, the rights to the series, they who are most well known for their sports simulators. Why not Relic? They're RTS gods and do excellent things with licenses. Why not Creative Assembly? Granted, they've basically just done Total War, but isn't that similar to what people would want from this? Gas Powered Games or even (shudder) Ubisoft would probably have been a better choice.

Although while the trailer is uninformative and kind of bleh, it doesn't actually show us any real gameplay, which means it might be great. Maybe. Hopefully there'll be a demo.

Truth be told Blood Bowl (Cyanide's older game series) had crap trailers as well and turned a pretty damn good adaptation of the board game.

I guess it's just their thing... The mechanics they've posted on the game's site look quite interesting.

I do agree that they're a very odd pick to develop a GoT game though.

To be fair that sword is presumably Blackfyre which is a pretty big deal as far as swords go in the ASoIaF universe.

I would like to point one thing out: The world of A Song of Ice and Fire IS INDEED GENERIC. The world itself is NOTHING NEW! It is the characters and the political intrigue that makes it into its own.
The world building in ASOIAF is not only crucial to the story, it's also quite awesome in it's own right(and pretty far from 'generic'). it's ok if that's not what you're personally into, but you can't dismiss it...without the setting there is no story.

Hmmm, if it is not taxing on the PC I might pick this up on clearance in about a year.

okay........I'm sticking with the Westeros Medieval II mod I think
I was just about to suggest that a Medieval II mod would be better than this. I wasn't even aware one existed...

Meh. Just buy Medieval II Gold Edition: Total War then download the Westeros mod. Much better. They just haven't added in the Targaryens yet.

I don´t think it looks that bad. Sure, it may look a bit generic, but if they manage to make each House do unique things in fun ways (give the Targaryans some dragons, give the Greyjoys some serious naval firepower, etc.), i thing this could be interesting.

Another fantasy RTS. I am literally shaking with anticipation... No, nope, not the right word.... oh, right, "rage".

Seriously, I know exactly how the board meeting went down: "So, I read like 5 chapters of the first book and noticed there's lots of armies"

"Well, real time strategy then, of course. Let's go for some margaritas."

First of all: The Song of Ice and Fire books are amazing on their own. I don't need or want to take direct part in anything that happened in them. On the other hand, R.R. Martin has created this huge, living, breathing, amazing fantasy world that I would love to explore. I would have much preferred to see a non-canonical action/adventure game set in the book's world, rather than what appears to be a generic RTS that lets you take part in battles from the stories.

That's what all those LoTR games did and remember how ho-hum they all were? Granted, I am not blaming the developer; strategy seems to be their strong suit. I just think it's the wrong developer for the job.

My primary issue with nerds is that they like to find reasons to dislike something rather than reasons to like it.

The main post about this trailer is a good example.
