Game of Thrones Season 7 discussion thread. (SPOILERS ABOUND)

Wasn't the wight in Castle Black animated because of the White Walkers' influence? I didn't think the dead automatically rise up, you need an actual White Walker for that. If the dead rose up automatically, there should have been undead popping up everywhere.

I am sensing a lot of GOT fatigue. I have a different take, because I started to watch it consistently last year. I simply couldn't get into the earlier episodes. Too many characters and too many stories. The worst part was neither the characters or stories were all that interesting. At least, now everything is streamlined with the characters and storyline.

I don't get the complaints about the time compression elements in the show. It is a fantasy show. So, I am thinking that the rules of physics don't really apply here. How about using some suspension of disbelief with the time compression like you have used with dragons, ice zombies, and other mystical elements of this show?

About the latest episode: It was alright. I love the zombie bear. I don't know why Jon Snow is still alive. It is baffling that he is suppose to be a "great hero". Yet, he constantly screws up and ends up getting other people killed. Speaking of which, I predicted a zombie dragon earlier this year. It has finally happened. It would be so cool to see Night King riding that bad boy. Why is Night King a villain? If anything, he should be a hero. Given how crappy these characters treat each other and how they rule their kingdoms. Night King is the leader that Westeros deserves.

I appreciated the spectacle enough to forgive the lack of internal consistency, but yeah, the whole "beyond the wall" subplot was pretty stupid. beautiful but stupid.

A friend pointed out that the whole "Successor" talk could be planting the seeds of the end of GOT involving Dany's 'breaking the wheel' to mean that she's going to introduce democracy to Westeros... my friend seemed genuinely excited by that possibility, but I can't stop cringing when I think about how likely that is, married to how utterly stupid it is, now that I've heard it.

It reminds me of "the legend of Korra", another divisive niche series with uneven-quality seasons that I was largely okay with... but even there did I find the "Man, democracy is great!" subplot out of nowhere to be really, really stupid. Still, I'll hold off on bitching at length about that possibility until it's more set in stone that that's what they're going with.

They don't actually know how the dead are reanimated, so they can't just wing it.

But it was pointless for another reason. Everyone and their mother knows that Cersei doesn't give a shit. Everyone knows that she won't have a change of heart. Everyone knows that she will still try to kill them all. Cersei has no right to be alive this season. They made a lot of stupid decisions just to justify keeping her alive all this time for the big finale, when she should have been so obviously crushed with little to no effort.

That only happened because everybody was waiting for Jon to stop fucking about with those zombies and get on the dragon.

The whole thing was obviously set up so that Jon could be rescued by Benjen, but their meeting was so brief it was a complete joke. Why not have Benjen meet up with the party early on in the episode, and then guide them to the White Walkers. He then could have given his horse to Gendry to get back to the wall, had a emotional scene with Jon, and then held off the zombies long enough to buy some time for the others to get rescued.

So Dany and Jon are gonna fuck in the end of the season finale, how much are you willing to bet Dany's body is gonna get CGI'ed like they did for Cersei in the Walk of Shame, and Dany when she was Unburnt the Second Time because how the fuck can you do that with sex? And its gonna be very interesting to see how she will react when she finds out that Jon is her Half-Nephew, but really is it even fair to call it incest? He's only half Targaryan and if anything he is more Stark than Targaryan.

So the Night King will be fighting Dany and her bands of brothers while riding a reanimated Dragon named after her brother. Interesting.

Unlike many in this thread I haven't had an issue with the way time and events have been shown in the last few seasons, I was more than happy to take the hit in terms of things like Euron's teleporting fleet, or Jamies fast marching army purely for the sake of avoiding filler, but even I have to admit the speed with which things happened in this episode was a bit OTT. I am not saying the things that happened couldn't have happened it was just that the show didn't really show any real sign of how long John and the Fellowship of the Dead were trapped on that island, it looked like half a day but it surely should have been longer.

It was an okay episode. A lot of stuff seemed contrived, like that little island they got trapped on, or how the wights learned to walk on the ice because the hound threw a fucking rock. And the whole Arya Sansa conflict seemed forced

But that horse totally could have held two people...

He could have lived to chill with his fucking nephew for a bit, give him more knowledge about how many white walkers there are, or anything.

hey, now! not for no reason. Those lingering plot points aren't going to wrap themselves up before the climax!

Granted, the fact that that's nakedly what they're doing is pretty shameful, and as the series gets closer to its conclusion the desperation of it has gotten a little taxing.

The big scene at the end of season 6 could well have shocked me with its scope and severity, but it failed because all I could imagine as I watched it was a room full of writers giving each other high-fives and declaring "whew! Wrote ourselves out of all those plotlines with a single scene!"

Utterly stupid plan, why not have the dragons wait at the wall or why not send them in to begin with. It's not like this eventuality was unexpected. Ravens are apparently as fast as email now.

Last episode was...pretty dumb.

In a literal sense; it was both pretty to watch and so dumb that I think I cracked a tooth from all the wincing. This whole season has been big on spectacle, big on fanservice, and light on everything else.

The wight heist was the dumbest plan ever. Jon was dumber than ever. The plot armour was double-plated. The show has no balls left. Kill someone, for Christ's sake! Kill Tormund! Or Beric! The guy who has died six times already! Jesus.

The best I can say is that I'm warming up to the Jon/Dany romance. And that dragon zombies are pretty cool.

(But couldn't they have done a frost wyrm dealy, where the Night King raises the dragon straight outta the water? Instead, they use these big chains that they got from...somewhere. )

Have you seen the Wrath of the Lich King trailer? Because that was basically the Wrath of the Lich King trailer.

I enjoyed the episode, though anything with White Walkers is sexy to me.

To be fair though, ever since I saw that wight polar bear, I called it on the spot that zombie dragons were going to happen, and lo and behold: Zombie dragons.

I have since seen the episode 3 times, and there are a few things that do annoy me, though.
1) Redshirt soldiers to drive tention.
2) Nobody died but Thoros and Benjen, who were a minor, minor characters, anyway. (and Benjen's death was a huge waste)
3) Sansa is an annoying ***** with an annoying ***** personality
4) Arya is a bit unhinged, isn't she? She seems to have taken a drastic weirdo turn, all of a sudden.

IMO no. Season 5 is still worse, mostly because it was just boring and drawn out due to still having to stick to the chronology of the books in some storylines. I can't remember nearly anything from it. Arya was in Braavos, and... got blinded at the end. Sansa got raped, and isn't that always fun, a rape being one of the only things you can remember from a show? Oh yeah, and Jon got stabby stabbed. The rest just blurs into this indistinct mush.

Season five was still worse. This season has enough visually impressive cool shit going on that it kinda makes up for the plot holes. Like, I can forgive Dany and her teleporting dragon so long as it also leads to a dragon fucking shit up.

Season five had all those plot holes, plus it was slow and boring, with no big scenes except for Hardhome. Which, unsurprisingly, was the only episode I liked.
