Hey Guys,
I have a game idea that I would like to pitch to you guys.
The Core pitch:
A man sentenced to Exile beneath the city he call Home to be awoken centuries later with no recollection of why he was sentenced there or who he was. The only thing he knows is he is getting shot at and he can wield Arcane Energy.
Back Story:
The Exile was born in this city centuries before the game starts. This city was filled with hundreds of magic-users. The Exile had flashes of visions depicting a terrible turn of events focussing on two crystalline towers intertwining around each other in a helix form. Through subtly manipulating their shatter points, he was able to collapse the towers and destabilize the power base of the government that was starting to bully the weaker magic-users.
The Exile did not run from the scene and allowed himself to be captured. He knew his role in this was over and allowed the sentencing to carry on. As a part of the regime that the government was instilling any attack on a governmental building was to be treated as 'High Treason'. The Exile would be stricken of his name, and bound within a ritual circle that would extend their life until the prisoner was the only one left of their bloodline.
During the imprisonment, an arrogant Maester by the name of Thilaressian lauded his position over the Exile, as he was known after the sentencing, saying that he would his power over the pitiful Exile and that he would never let Exile be free for humiliating the government.
Thinking quickly, the Exile began to subtly manipulate the energy of Thilaressian, binding more of his energy into the ritual circle. The Exile figured that the arrogant fool would not notice his energy bleeding away until it was far too late. Thilaressian bound the Exile to the back wall and left him there, walking away with an arrogant grin on his face.
The Exile surveyed the Arcane Circle that surrounded him. He knew the power that was in it would sustain him, but could it do more than that. With painstaking effort, the Exile memorized the pattern and while he slept his subconscious mind retraced the circle for centuries as the Exile willed his body to sleep until such time he would be awoken.
Several decades passed before the government stepped up its plan to force the weaker users under their iron fist. The weaker users remembered that the Exile was able to collapse those two crystalline towers without expending a large amount of energy. They changed their fighting tactics against the government and started to manipulate whatever they could to gain an upper hand. Eventually the government and the 'Pure Magi' fled to another world.
Centuries after their victory, the 'Free People' became little more than tribes and the outcasts from there became little more than animals or thugs.
Story Arcs / Plot:
(Starting Cutscene) A young couple run through the once grand city being chased by the deviants. They darted into a theatre and as they crossed the seating are, the floor collapsed beneath them. The crack spread out and broke the Arcane Circle rousing a long dormant Exile from his hibernation.
Barely able to move, the Exile collapsed. The couple helped him up while the Exile unconsciously surrounded them with a shield. As they lead him to where they fell through, the deviants surrounded them and starting using energy based weapons against them. The shield held up against them and the deviants screeched in anger. They started to throw heavy objects which penetrated the shield and crashed into them.
The pain surged slightly through Exile rousing him enough to fight. (End Starting Cutscene)
There are some minor story arcs, mainly involving the tribal remnants of the City-Dwellers.
Mechanics:
This is an open-world sandbox game. (Not original, but it works)
The genre is Action RPG with FPS style combat. (Again, not original)
Experience is NOT gained by using weapons.
The Exile is a Magic User. Through using his magic he gains experience and through that he can unlock the key mechanic for this game I will mention below.
Amnesia: Yes he has it, but through using his magic and gaining experience he can recover fragments of memory. At Milestone levels 5, 10, etc he unlocks more potent memories.
Magic Bleed: Not what you might think. He doesn't bleed magic in a physically bleed, but as the sole person on this world that can use magic has become its only conduit. The more magic he uses in an area, the more the energy will bleed out and affect the area. If he keeps using it against the deviants they can gain magic themselves. Ditto for the tribal people.
Morale System: This is not a coin toss anymore. This not Good/Evil or Paragon/Renegade. This is Light/Neutral/Dark. With a passive bonus for each. Light 'Exiles' attack faster with magic. Neutral are more resilient. Dark have more impact with their attacks.
I could go into a bit more detail, but only if you guys are interested.
