Ok, I just received an e-mail from Xbox advertising the new demo for Halo: Reach, and as a special offer this week, if you like the demo, you can get £10 off the full game from Games On Demand, paying just £39.99...

wait, wait, wait, so the before price was £49.99?!? For a game that came out last year? It's not even like you get anything else with it, not even a case! You can pick this up for £20-£25 pre-owned today, I didn't even pay £49.99 when I bought it day of release.

How on earth can Microsoft justify charging that much for this!

I rag on Nintendo all the time for this.

For example: Super Mario Galaxy, a game approaching four years, still sells new for its original retail price.

My guess is it has to do with it being a parent publication.

Look at the Call of Duty, or Pokemon games. As long as people are buying them, the prices are immovable.

$50 is about £30 so it's not a massive difference


Just for a comparison, because some people seem to be getting confused £50 for a game in the UK, in pounds sterling, equals about $80 US, and $75 Aus. £ are not the same as $

Would you pay $80 for a game that came out last year, just because you can download it instead?

Nintendo is HORRIBLE about it. They've only very recently started releasing some of their games at a "this has been out for 5 years" price, and only a few. Brawl is still full price.

Microsoft's Games on Demand service is ridiculously overpriced for most games.For example Fallout:New Vegas is ?49.99 on XBL.I picked it up brand new for ?29.99 about 3 months ago so it's probably available even cheaper now yet the XBL price hasn't dropped a penny

Nintendo is HORRIBLE about it. They've only very recently started releasing some of their games at a "this has been out for 5 years" price, and only a few. Brawl is still full price.

Can you honestly blame them though.Nintendo's first party games tend to sell well for years so they have no incentive to drop the price.It's shitty for consumers but from a purely business standpoint it makes no sense for them to drop the price of products that are still selling in large numbers

games in xbox marketplace are pretty expensive comparing to other stores, I buy new games for 50euros and older games 10-40euros

Considering how they've been losing momentum lately, I'd say that something in their formula isn't working. A lot of people buy consoles late in the generation because they want to save money, especially on games. Lowering prices on their old games might also have kept people playing their Wiis instead of trading them in/selling them

There are still the greatest hits titles on PS3, but I noticed that Nintendo isn't doing much and I don't think there is one for 360 titles yet.

The momentum drop is in hardware rather than software sales though.Games like Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros are still selling well so until there's a serious drop in software sales they'll continue to keep prices high.Personally I don't agree with it but what you gonna do
