Step 1: Try out the demo, go out to friends house and try it out or watch gameplay on youtube
Step 2: Read what people say about game on escapist and screwattack
Step 3: I find out what "official" reviewers think (gametrailers, ign, metacritic, etc)
Step 4: Buy it used from auction sites and pay 20-30 euros less than what I would from fresh copy of the game

I don't really care about the points. If game is blast to play i'll get it sooner or later.

Step 1: Drive to GameStop
Step 2: Look around for games in my price range
Step 3: Find something that looks interesting, read the back cover
Step 4: Purchase the game
Step 5: If the game is bad, return to GameStop for store credit
Step 6: Rinse and repeat

You should look into Metacritic, my friend. It does all the averaging for you.
Yes, but it averages every source. I believe you need to have a licence to be a reviewer.

I was completely unaware that there was such a process. My purchases consist of:
50% Well thought out decisions, made after reading a few reviews or spending time with a rental,
30% Based on a friend's opinion, and
20% impulse.

Wow.

I guess there is a process, when you think about it.
