Ok. This may not be relevant, but this seems to be the only place to tell someone about this. So I was just channel surfing, and saw this show on Cartoon Network called Chowder. I left it on for a second, and the kid, Chowder, was getting kicked out a wedding. So he says: "But I was promised cake... The cake was a lie...". After this I stood up and clapped for a minute straight. It was actually pretty funny.

So I ask you, have you ever seen a game reference in a place where no one would get it or it was just unnecessary?

EDIT: Movies and books also accepted. Anything related to them counts. Graffiti'd Tri-Force, "It's good to be king", anything.

I literaly sat in front of my computer thinking for like, 10 minutes.
Unfortunately, No.

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!

In shawn of the dead, shaun uses a trampeline to jump over a fence. That might have been a reference to Zombies Ate My Neighboors. Does that count?

When I was on holiday in Switzerland there was a replica ocarina of time in a shop window. And I'm sure that was what it was supposed to be because they had put a triforce on it.

Hmm...not really a game reference, but still an unexpected one: a few years ago, I was reading my brother's copy of Boy's Life (a boy scout magazine) and in one of the editor's character's responses included "It's good to be the king" from Mel Brooks' History of the World: Part I. I doubt many other people knew the reference.

For someone to buy and really play on? I would like to hear that played in real life...

I had a stripper at a stag night reference All Your Base. She proved her worth!

Funny, a senior in my drama class said the same exact thing!

Heheheh. Those writers should be given a cookie.

I'll just mail it.

Sadly, I haven't experienced any of those things.

nah.

which is to say I find a reference to a game quite enjoyable, like a little easter egg,and I like secrets, even if there not really secret.

and as for this little number

Looked it - didn't check though and it was probably ridiculously expensive anyway.

What a wasted reference. I would think the kids who watch that show are too young/stupid to have played through Portal.

I remember seeing a Johnny Bravo episode where he was dressed as a pig. I had seen it when I was young, but it took me until recently to understand the quote "four feet good, two feet bad!".

It was pretty damn funny though.

Are you serious??? Wow that's one particularly nerdy stripper. Nothing wrong with that, just strange.

Maybe it was one of those: Oh shit. There was a reference in that script. Eh, no one will get it. Let some nerds complain.
