Game series that need to end NOW

Everybody loves a good franchise right? But it seems that too many game companies are pushing out the same game over and over and over, with the only difference being, they make the graphics a bit better, and they add a bigger number at the end. So I've come to realize that there are certain franchises that need to end, and they need to end now. Below is my list with my reasons why.

1) Sonic The Hedgehog
I don't think I need to go into too much detail with this one except by saying that the last good Sonic game was Sonic & Knuckles. It's pretty sad to see a classic like Sonic being completely destroyed.

2) Tomb Raider
They're not even trying to fix the bugs that have been in the Tomb Raider games since the first game. They just make Laura's tits bigger, and maybe give you some new guns.

3) Halo
I never really understood why Halo is as popular as it is. I've never owned a Halo game, but plenty of my friends do. I've played them at their houses, and somewhat enjoyed them. But I never got why people where saying that it was "revolutionary." And I thought the series was supposed to end at the third game, but now it seems that the creators are going to put out cookie-cutter sequels just to make some more money.

4) The Legend of Zelda
I used to love the Zelda series. But after Majora's Mask, I started to realize that the new games are pretty much exactly the same as the older games. The dungeons have the same themes, the items are exactly the same, the characters are pretty much the same, and the only thing that changes is the world map.

5) Final Fantasy
It's simple really, I DON'T WANT TO PLAY AS A PRE-TEEN ANDROGYNOUS BOY/GIRL ANY MORE. How about making some believable characters with a believable fantasy world? And I don't want to fight against some big evil corporation or government either. Really, the plot of FF games boils down to 1984 with children and giant swords.

Feel free to add your own.
Now remember, these are only my opinions, and you're free to say that I'm wrong. You probably won't change my mind, but you can try.

This thread has been done ALOT of times.

Also about Halo theres a bunch of new Halo games coming in the following years, may them be direct sequels or spin-offs.

That topic's more about bringing games back than it is about killing them.

Has Yahtzee created a clone account? These criticism have all been spouted by him, only with more insight. Are you sure they're actually your opinions? Not saying you aren't allowed your opinion (if that is the case, no offence but it seems like you're just popular-franchise bashing to get cred here), but this stuff has been discussed a million, billion times before, in more detail.

Anyway, I don't wish death upon any franchise because all of them still have something to offer. They will make a good (2D) Sonic game again. Tomb Raider will eventually come along with some inutitive puzzles. Zelda and Halo have always been great, simple as that, and I have no wish to see either of them end, the industry would be much worse off for it.

i couldnt agree with you more and i must say that i loved the early 2D sonic games and now stupid games like sonic heroes, sonic and the dark brotherhood (WTF was all that about since when did sonic make a good theme for a turn based game?) and that sonic and the secret rings just ruined it for me completely

Oh yes, I have opinions against bad games, so I must be copying the cool kids. It's so obvious.

"hey will make a good (2D) Sonic game again."
And that made me laugh so hard I nearly died.

Final Fantasy? No - wait, hear me out.

Square Enix is a great company, they produce quality games. I get that. I still hate JRPG's. And every FF game except for III/VI. (depending on where you live)

I think Square Enix should move on to a NEW and original IP. Something totally different than what they're used to. I BET they would make something pretty kickass.

But seriously, FF is twitching... let's just put a bullet in it's head already.

No no no no no no no no noooo!! I love The Legend of Zelda games!! Why would you want the games to end? They all have diffrent stories, diffrent puzzles, and diffrent areas! The Legend of Zelda is an amazing series, i don't know why anyone would want it to end

Sonic the Hedgehog- woo hoo bandwagon!
Legend of zelda- Its getting pretty repetitive and frankly the series is starting to lose its charm.

I love how people always point to Halo when they're talking about tired/milked-out franchises, when there have only been 4 games in the series so far. Four. There have been more versions of Street Fighter 2 than there have been Halo games. Nothing against SF, and I don't even own Halo, I'm just saying.

I picked Halo because It's exactly like every FPs I've ever played.

Halo = extremely successful and popular franchise which brings the whole FPS genre to casual console gamers. Only yesterday it was announced that over a billion Halo 3 games have been played online now [http://blog.mlive.com/manzero/2009/03/bungie_halo_3_hits_one_billion.html]. You never really gave a *good* reason for it being closed other than you don't particularly like it.

All the other titles you mentioned are from franchises that are actually failing now, or are at least visibly sick. There is a tide of "Halo Hate" that seems to be going around at the moment stemming from people who just can't bear the fact the game is actually popular.

If you want to put a game in its grave, it should be a mercy killing, not an act of spite. To this end I suggest Unreal Tournament. UT was very successful. UT2003 was considerably less so. UT2004 was moderately well received. UT3 died a bloody and swift death, but still has about 300 people unwilling to accept that fact. That series can't be recovered.

You're not wrong to say that Halo's popular and extremely successful, I just wanted to say that I don't like it, and I don't see WHY it's so successful.

HALO, the first one tried something new and I give it credit, but that dosent mean it was a good game, and two and three were just worse. The game as an FPS lacks a lot of good qualitys most FPS games should have, and its mostly just boaring all and all. And I don't believe square enix will drop the stupid JRPG crap for some time. I do like adventure games, and I don't mind them being about stuff that might never really happen, but you have a point. I really don't see a 12 year old kid swinging a sword that weights roughly 700lbs around at people weilding assult rifles coming out on top. If they have sword you have guns if they have guns you have swords, am i the only one who makes no sence of this? And I don't see this whole anime JRPG crap stopping in America anytime soon. Maybe 5 years after japan stops.

Halo has done nothing special to the fps world, it have no unique features or over the top games play, like Ben said, everything it's done have been done before and better. What I really don't get is the reason why it is so loved by the masses. And I dought 1 billing people have bought halo 3, I don't think there is that many 360 consoles sold. Thats close to a sixth of the worlds population.

Why did they tack Halo Wars onto the series anyway? I don't think it was even necessary to keep the franchise going, much less make it into a real-time strategy game.
