I think Square Enix should move on to a NEW and original IP. Something totally different than what they're used to. I BET they would make something pretty kickass.

But seriously, FF is twitching... let's just put a bullet in it's head already.
Amen, FF needs to be left to die. Dirge of Cebereus? Advent Children? Crisis Core? Who cares?

But yes, SE need to look at something new.

Some sort of FPS would be cool, but I could see them doing something more along the lines of Gears, 3rd Person Action with a Gears feel? Idk, these are just my own ramblings.

I do agree with rob0t on the 3 following points.

Sonic & Knuckles was THE last good Sonic game. And the only thing that saved that was being able to hook up Sonic3 and get a stupidly long adventure with a secret level at the end of it. [The Doomsday Zone theme music STILL gets stuck in my head to this day]

Halo isn't revolutionary. I've been saying since day one - average FPS, no shiny baubles or decorations worth noting [HOLY SHIT I said its Average, hope no-one accuses me of copying Yahtzee :O Although, fucking AWESOME avatar GuerillaClock. Spaced FTW.]

Zelda HAS been the same since the very original, just like most other franchises though, the budget gets bigger and the game gets made preetier, just a shame they forgot to add anything else new. Although after the mess of Windwaker, I'll probably never touch a Zelda game again. [Unless they release OoT on Xboxlive!]

As for what I series I think need to be put down?

Command and Conquer. It was good up to Red Alert 2. Barely. Then they tried Generals, and to be fair, they tried something new and it fucked up spectacularly. I've played the first few levels of the Soviet campaign on RA3, and its nice to see they've kept up making awesome cutscenes, and Field Intelligence Operatives with the stereotypical 'top three buttons on my blouse undone' big chested lady types, and haven't shyed away hiring big name actors as well. I was personally suprised to see ol Mikhail from the LOST island appearing as one of my higher ups, although I have to say they'd done it before by using Josh Hollaway aka Sawyer in the last proper C&C game.

Resident Evil. This is a big shocker coming from me. I'm quite possibly the biggest Resident Evil fan I know. I'm frothing at the mouth for Resi 5, I've booked the week off work so I can devote my week to Resi 5. But I'm worried its going to go the same way as most franchises, copying the same basic plot line but adding unpredictable[/sarcasm] twists, and is going to start becoming more hard to swallow. Either that or those game gods at Capcom could scratch one up on the bedpost next to Square Enix for "Longest Running Game Series", but actually had a game series that was good from game to game, not just a strong start and a piss poor finish.

[P.S Nothing other than Resident Evil 0+1+2+3+Veronica+4 exist in my eyes. Outbreak/Survivor/any of the other little fillers can go eat a neutron bomb.]

I love how people always point to Halo when they're talking about tired/milked-out franchises, when there have only been 4 games in the series so far. Four. There have been more versions of Street Fighter 2 than there have been Halo games. Nothing against SF, and I don't even own Halo, I'm just saying.
I picked Halo because It's exactly like every FPs I've ever played.
So what's wrong with mediocrity? If you're going to complain about average games, your list could have been a whole lot longer. You just picked Halo because it's the popular thing to hate on nowadays.

Halo has done nothing special to the fps world, it have no unique features or over the top games play, like Ben said, everything it's done have been done before and better. What I really don't get is the reason why it is so loved by the masses. And I dought 1 billing people have bought halo 3, I don't think there is that many 360 consoles sold. Thats close to a sixth of the worlds population.
You're shitting me, 1 billing people bought Halo 3? Amazing, that's like, a thousand millionon.

"1) Sonic The Hedgehog
I don't think I need to go into too much detail with this one except by saying that the last good Sonic game was Sonic & Knuckles. It's pretty sad to see a classic like Sonic being completely destroyed.

2) Tomb Raider
They're not even trying to fix the bugs that have been in the Tomb Raider games since the first game. They just make Laura's tits bigger, and maybe give you some new guns."

The term is deja-nazi.
I Don't have much of an opinion on this, I just wanted to quote the term Deja-nazi. But if I had to pick one, I'd have to say sonic. It's a bit of a cop-out, but it's the only franchise that looks truly beyond help.

I would say Halo and Sonic but those aren't series anymore. They've become franchises almost. Any series that decides to make a game outside their genre of expertise (think of all those Pinball games we saw in the 90's) is pretty much asking to be shut down.
Personally I would have to say Pokemon (I could barely stand it when it was released and now see that the makers' creativity has died), Fallout (don't push your luck after such a great game!), God of War (they're all the same and we have enough clones to get by without them), Grand Theft Auto (see previous), Silent Hill (the horror's gone, all we have is action), Fable (any more sequels and we'll be in present day), and Call of Duty (unless they get back into the present day and/or future).

Don't play it then?

Personally I think Capcom should fuck off Resident Evil in favour of a new Dino Crisis, who's with me?

Dynasty Warriors if you played one you have played them all.
Anything Sonic - I won't even bother explaining why I would beat this dead horse.

World of Warcraft, ever since WarCraft III I've wanted the WarCraft series to end, they totally ruined it.

Now remember, these are only my opinions, and you're free to say that I'm wrong. You probably won't change my mind, but you can try.
Don't mind if I do. On one of your points, anyway, even if I'm not that fond of the series these days.

5) Final Fantasy
It's simple really, I DON'T WANT TO PLAY AS A PRE-TEEN ANDROGYNOUS BOY/GIRL ANY MORE. How about making some believable characters with a believable fantasy world? And I don't want to fight against some big evil corporation or government either. Really, the plot of FF games boils down to 1984 with children and giant swords.
Parrot Yahtzee much? He said the same, completely misinformed dribble in his E3 video. Of course, you can hardly expect a guy that avoids JRPG's like the plague to really know anything about them. Even if its a mainstream series. I suppose the very idea of Yahtzee being wrong about something is a completely alien concept to some people. I like his videos, personally, but for crying out loud make your own damn arguments!

First off, I can count on one hand the number of pre-teen final fantasy characters. Only one of those was male, and another one grows up midway through the game. Neither are main characters. Final Fantasy character ages generally range from late teens to early twenties. Granted, I have no idea how old Vivi is. Most I played FF9 was probably an hour or two into the first disc. So, for your first point...well you have no point, because thats never been the case. Perhaps you're thinking of Kingdom Hearts, wherein the main character was originally intended to be Mickey Mouse himself? I'll concede the androgynous point from FF7 to FF10. FF12 I haven't played and since there's some debate as to who the main character actually is I won't go there, though people have said it overthrows FF2 as a Star Wars ripoff. FF11 was an MMO, FF13 has a female lead, and FF10-2 had all characters female. Yaoi fangirls were the reason the androgynous stereotype briefly gained popularity.

Next point, "believable fantasy world"? Well, its hardly fantasy if its believable. The difference between sci-fi and fantasy is fantasy makes the impossible possible, while sci-fi makes the improbable probable. Perhaps what you're trying to say is "less high fantasy, more generic medieval england kthnx".

And finally we have the "big evil corporation" point. I suppose some games follow that, if you substitute 'corporation' with 'empire'. Only FF7 actually had an evil corporation, though they weren't the main enemy. He also mentioned a 'hippie subtext' in his video but I haven't the slightest idea where he pulled that from, FF7 or not. FF7 was just all too quick to drop the whole Shinra thing and chase after Sephiroth, while Shinra chased after the party.

I don't see why the Final Fantasy franchise needs to die, since every game in the series is different from the last rather than an actual sequel. I will say this, though: FF7 needs to die. Its getting to be like the Star Wars EU and I won't be at all surprised when an FF7 game revolving around Avalanche pre-FF7 comes out. I didn't even think FF7 was that good, personally. But then again, these days I'm only really interested in the tactics series of final fantasy games. I'm still willing to give newer final fantasy games a shot but I don't figure they're likely to appeal to me. I prefer to judge games on their own merits rather than paint an entire franchise/genre with the same brush, else I wouldn't be willing to give Mass Effect or Fallout 3 a shot and would simply declare them the same as every other WRPG.

Really though, I don't see why you're complaining about not wanting to play final fantasy games anymore. You clearly never have.

Halo, they should leave it now while it can still be considered an iconic game before they ruin it and try to reel out loads more games, ruining it. Very much like has now happened to Sonic.

Umm.. why must they be killed.. if you dont like them dont play them. Although the Zeldas are the same as they were back on 64 it doesnt mean people still dont enjoy them. I pretty much get Nintendo consoles for just the Mario and Zelda title.

Why not kill something like fallout. Ive never really liked any games in the series all that much.. why not kill it?
...I dont like it so it should be dead

/end rant

I cant believe no one noticed need for speed or any of the other completely replacable racing games that keep appearing.

I personally wont be buying a further incarnation of:

FIFA/PES
Resident evil
Soul Calibur
Rainbow 6
battle field
Grand theft auto
Devil may cry
silent hill

This wont be enough to kill of a franchise but Im doing my bit.

As far as halo goes, I lost interest half way through 2, I beat 3 but dont play it online. I remember thinking when playing halo how good it was not carrying 18 oversized weapons, not chasing round after health packs and loving the off hand grenade button.

If halo means I dont have to play another shitty FPS where I carry 26 weapons weighing in at 2.3 tonnes and having to remember which key each is on, or worse cycle through them, then it deserves an award.

On the fly duel wield introduced in 2 was nice as well.

I play far more call of duty.

Has Yahtzee created a clone account? These criticism have all been spouted by him, only with more insight. Are you sure they're actually your opinions? Not saying you aren't allowed your opinion (if that is the case, no offence but it seems like you're just popular-franchise bashing to get cred here), but this stuff has been discussed a million, billion times before, in more detail.
So by your logic, if someone has a similar opinion to someone else, it isn't their opinion?
