Well, I don't know about the rest of the world but in the UK there's many many different games courses at various universities. If it's the same for other places then there'll be plenty of games students lurking around here I bet.

So post what you're doing, the modules involved and all info. Post how you got into it, why that place, how you're finding/found that course and any sucesses you've had!

Personally I've just finished the 2nd year of a BSc Games Design course in the West Midlands of England. So far I'm on a first but I haven't gotten all my results in yet. All in all my course is a bit spread out and the lecturers seem pretty amatur, except one or two.. I often think I'm wasting my time but at the same time I'd be lost if I hadn't gone here. After deciding that the only thing I wanted to do was to go into games (initially wanting to do level design), I found a booklet in Edge magazine listing all the universities around the UK. I looked at every single one and narrowed it down to two, the one I'm in and one in Middlesborough. The other uni had too much emphasis on hand-drawing which I wasn't fantastic at but they said they'd let me in anyway (which I didn't feel reasured about because there's too many spaces for games design around the UK), so I decided against it.

It's Game related, but I'm not sure if this is for Gaming or Off-Topic.. so I apologize if it's in the wrong area.

Well, I'm not doing anything specific, but I am majoring in computer programming at my college, and I've made a few games over the years.
(Specific languages: Java, C, C++, PHP, Javascript, and some others.)
I'm also minoring in graphic design, and I am currently getting an internship with Microsoft to program things. (I have no idea what the project I'm working on is, however.)

Personally I wouldn't trust any game course that isn't Tiga and / or Skillset approved; there may be a lot of game courses out there, but there are only a handful that are worth taking on.

I have had offers from two accredited game programming courses and, provided I get the results, I will be attending one of those courses.

I had to look all over for a game design course at my college, I took C++ in high school but I am going to have to retake it in college since my teacher never taught me anything.

yeah... those "game courses" are gimmicks. you'd do better to major in something in the arts like creative writing or design or w/e, or something in programming.
It's not all doom and gloom though, a few of the people who've graduated have found jobs in the industry. Junior Modellers and QA.. the others have gone on to the masters. You have to try though, firsts or good 2:1s will count, but there isn't much hope for the 30-40% of people who can't even pass modules. Seems they could do with raising the bar for the requirements of getting in.
