Turok, yes, the newest one. The targeting required that you move its sensitivity down to the lowest possible setting to make the game functional, but the idea of playing an FPS where you kill dinosaurs with a knife is just too fun. Also, the multiplayer co-op levels were pretty fun to play through too. I can't help it, I enjoyed it for every flaw and "already been done" moment it had.
Turok is actually on my list of games to buy at budget price, yeah I know, I'm cheaper than Cheaper D at Cheap ass gamer, but what the hell.

You wouldn't laugh at the fact I got an Xbox360 for 129 with 30 games, which I gave away to my nephew.

Hilarious that you also mentioned TimeShift as a game you enjoyed too, I also own that. Admittedly, I never bought it, was a gift, but I do own it. The only thing I didn't really care for was the cut and paste enemies, but I've only played through the first 3 levels.

Thing is with most shooters I like renting them (Gears, Halo, COD) but I rarely buy them because I am not a big fan of online gaming over XBox Live (not because of the morons on XBox Live, more so the preference for SOME story). I mean, I rented Left 4 Dead and played every campaign offline before venturing online (it was a lot more fun online I admit). My point, rambling as it is, is that I like to play games on my own much more than get into a frag-fest, but it seems like there aren't going to be many story-driven FPS games coming out. Fallout 3 and Bioshock were "hybrid" FPS' (that I loved) but a pure FPS with at least some story has been lacking of late...

...except Turok!

PS - I apologize for the most nonsensical post I have ever made, hockey playoff game tonight, little on edge.

I got a few games that met with a lot of ire from critics and the community. In the last year:

The Outfit
Rise of the Argonauts
Army of Two
Viking: Battle for Asgard
Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War
Mercenaries 2
Too Human
Heroes of Annihilated Empires
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos Gold

Those are the ones I recall off the top of my head anyway. I've had fun with all of them.
I can see that they arn't perfect, but they're all pretty good fun anyway.

Oh, and what I didn't manage to coherently say was I like single player, with length and plot. I think I just condensed the last post into something sensible.

why did you stop at level 3?, the second half of the game is significantly better than the first half, slo motion and rewind nade kills never gets old.

You've always got Unreal 3 for story driven FPS, ahhahaahahah, sorry. hur hur.

Fuckers went and fucked Unreal up, pricks, its ok though I still have Unreal Gold on my other PC, i recomend you try that and Unreal 2 the awakening for meaty weapons and satisfying story driven locales.

Wartech: Senko no Ronde.

Most of the people I know think that combining a shmup and a fighting game was an asinine idea.

I on the other hand think it's awesome. Shame I don't have more people to play against, though.

Final Fantasy 12 - for reasons of historicity, and reasons already mentioned above, I love the whole final fantasy series. IMO, 12 was great, improved (Yes I said improved) combat is no reason to dislike it IMO.

Crysis - I've never heard a single good thing about the gameplay or story in this game, yet it was easily the most rewarding FPS experience I've had, even if not the most engrossing. I believe it would be a top-tier FPS even if it had sub-par graphics.

Halo - I like it, I have fun with it. I always have, and I still do.

Oblivion - I don't know why, but I see alot of ire directed at this game "samey, their faces don't emote, not enough voices, blah blah blah" To me this is calling a lamborghini rubbish because it's hubcaps are a little worn,

I don't recall JSRF being actively hated, just forgotten. It got a lot of glowing reviews and everyone who has actually played the game loved it.

I liked that game as well. It wasn't the revolutionary film to game experience the developers promised and it was glitchy as hell but you could run up walls and kick people in the face. That counts for something in my book.

Other than that I enjoyed Gungrave Overdose, Ghost in the Shell:SAC and Marvel Vs Capcom 2, games which I think only got average reviews, but I love them for the chaotic gameplay, especially MVC2.
