I'm looking for some Gamecube games to buy and thought about coming here first to hear some recommendations from my fellow Escapists!

So Escapists, what do you recommend? :D

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is a great buy. And I see Metroid Prime 2 but not the original?

Tales of Symphonia - JRPG. Has a real-time combat system, as opposed to a turn-based. There are so many things to do outside the main story, you'll be playing for upwards of 70-80 hours before beating the game, if you wanna do everything. There's also a New Game+ mode that lets you choose specific bonuses, depending on how much Grade you earned throughout your playthrough.

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - Action/Adventure/Puzzle/Platformer. It's Zelda and it looks beautiful, need I say more?

Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut - Speed-Action. Has world hubs and stages, has several playable characters, it's just amazing. Has a Chao Garden where you may spend a LOT of time having fun raising a Chao.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle - Speed-Action. Has three separate storylines to complete and also has a Chao Garden like the first title, but more refined. Great fun.

Sonic Heroes - Team-based Speed-Action. You get four different teams that have their own storyline to complete. Also very fun.

Shadow the Hedgehog - Speed-Action/Third-Person Shooter. You play as Shadow, obviously. It plays like most Sonic games but Shadow can also drive vehicles(like he even needs to) and he can use firearms. Has a much darker tone than the typical Sonic title.

Sonic Mega Collection - Contains all the older generation Sonic titles. Must have for any Sonic fan.

Luigi's Mansion - Action-Puzzle. You play Luigi in a large mansion, catching ghosts and solving puzzles. Great game.

Metroid Prime - First-Person Shooter. FPS take on the Metroid series. Great lore, excellent gameplay, expansive world to explore. Great fun, highly recommend.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - First-Person Shooter. Not much to say other than it's a sequel to the first Metroid Prime. Also highly recommend.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance - Top-down Dungeon Crawling RPG. Excellent setting, engaging gameplay, great story. Also has absolutely fabulous graphics for the 'Cube.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - Arena Fighter. Much like Smash Bros. before it and Smash Bros. Brawl after it. It's okay on your own, but infinitely better with friends.

Super Mario Sunshine - Action-Adventure Platformer. The Gamecube's 3D Mario title. Mario uses the Flash Liquidizing Ultra Dousing Device(F.L.U.D.D.) to clean up Delfino Island, stop Bowser and save the day. My favorite Mario title to date.

Skies of Arcadia Legends - JRPG. Great fun, great story, amazing music. Definitely recommend.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean - JRPG. Has an odd battle system that requires a little getting used to, but it's great fun and the setting is absolutely beautiful.

Batek Kaitos: Origins - JRPG. Not much to say other than it's a prequel to Baten Kaitos.

There are more, but these are what I have and what I remember playing.

I see a disturbing lack of Super Smash Brothers Melee.

I remember when we got a Gamecube my brother and I had this big list in our heads of all the games we wanted to get for it. First thing we got was Super Smash Brothers Melee and we promptly forgot almost everything else on the list. Seriously that game is worth the extra $100 for a gamecube, it's a lot of fun and has a lot of replay value.

Anyway if you try Timesplitters and like it you should also get the 3rd one called Future Perfect. A lot of people prefer the 2nd game but I prefer the 3rd, the single player is less annoyingly insanely difficult, and is better overall so it's easier to unlock crazy characters (also all the modes and levels are unlocked straight out of the box).
I completely forgot about one of the best Gamecube games on that list! I loved Melee, because I played that like everyday I could!! Consider it added!! :D

It would also help if we knew what you already have, perhaps? I would assume just by that list that you've already got Metroid Prime and X-Men Legends, but I wouldn't be sure.

Anyway, out of that list alone I can recommend:
Kirby Air Ride - Though it's much, much more fun with friends, it's still a cute, fun, unique little racing game.

Mario Kart Double Dash - My personal favorite MK game, though if you've played any of the others you'll still know what you're getting into with it, as it doesn't do too much differently from MK 64 or MK Wii.

Spider-Man 2 - It's a pretty mediocre game, really, but it got swinging around New York City so right.

Tales of Symphonia - Great JRPG. It doesn't have the best combat system of the franchise, but they've always had a relatively solid action combat system anyway, so it's a lot of fun. You would want a bit of tolerance for "typical" anime/JRPG stuff though.

Metroid Prime 2 - It's a lot darker than the first one, from my memories of them. But if you've played the first one, it's basically bigger and better in almost every way. If you don't have the first, you should really get both. Aiming is a bit weird, but there's lock-on and auto-aim help, so it's not that bad.

X-Men Legends 2 - I thought it was better than the first Legends game in every way. It's a great isometric action-RPG game, with a lot of characters and powers and variety; And it's got cheat codes! Though they broke my game when I used them. Or it's got a few bugs. I'm not sure which.

Wind Waker - It's the only Zelda game I've actually completed, and I beat it twice. It's not for everyone, but I really enjoyed sailing around the Great Sea, exploring all the little islands and mini-dungeons, and the art style was absolutely fantastic.

I haven't played Hulk: Ultimate Destruction myself but I've read that Radical's later game Prototype was basically the same thing without the Hulk licensed skin, and Prototype was pretty fun as a mayhem simulator in my opinion, so it might be worth checking out if you want some sort of sandbox to go nuts in or something.

Otherwise, assuming you don't own them already I'd also recommend:
Super Smash Bros. Melee - Don't know if I need to describe it at this point, but it's a great little arena brawler game with a diverse cast of characters and so much replayability that it's not even funny.

Ultimate Spider-Man - It's a better actual game than Spider-Man 2 in my opinion, and while the web-swinging doesn't have the same acrobatic depth Spider-Man 2 put in, it's the last game that actually got the swinging right. Plus after you beat the story mode you can run around as Venom, eating pedestrians and throwing cars.

Sonic Mega Collection - It's got all of the old Genesis/Megadrive Sonic games. :D They're so much fun.

I suppose tentatively Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle as well.

Personally, I think Adventure DX has aged a bit better. Big and Amy missions can get frustrating and they and E-102 Gamma feel incredibly out of place because they all have completely different gameplay, but Sonic and Tails are fun and Knuckles' levels aren't nearly as eye-gougingly horrible as they became in SA2. As for Adventure 2, the Sonic and Shadow missions are still fun, but everything else just feels like it should've been in different games, the visuals are somehow worse even though it's the sequel, the voice acting for everybody except Robotnik and Shadow is cringe-worthy, and the story is paced abysmally, but there's a lot of time that can still be sunk into it after the initial playthrough of the story when you just go through Stage Select to do the few good levels and start playing around in the Chao Garden, which is addictive as hell despite being virtually unexplained within the game.

I wish I could give you a list but...I don't have my Gamecube anymore. I made this thread to purchase some games when I purchase another Gamecube. I can make the list of the games I used to have, so here it goes:

Metroid Prime
Sonic Mega Collection
Lego Star Wars 1&2
Crash Tag Team Racing
Super Smash Bros Melee
Super Mario Sunshine
Viewtiful Joe 2

That's about all of the games I used to have. Hope this helps! :D

EDIT: I should add these games to the list as well!

Ah, well in that case my list stands as I've typed it. :D

Definitely would say pick up the Sonic Mega Collection again if you've not got another way to play the classic Sonic games anymore (obviously predicated on if you actually like them, though), and the first Metroid Prime along with Echoes depending on how much you actually remember of it.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is probably the best Paper Mario RPG and a solid title for the GameCube.
